Xbox One not installing games to external HDD

A few days ago none of my games woulf start playing and the error code kept coming up saying that the game/app took too long to start (can't remember the code atm). I looked up this issue and the only thing that kept coming up over and over again was to
unplug the hard drive and hard reset the Xbox. I did this and it would work once then start doing it again after I closed out of the game. So I factory reset my xbox hoping that woulf solve it. I reformatted the hard drive on my computer the reformatted it
on the xbox one to use for games. I started installing a couple games and when I came back an hour later ot said that the installation had stopped for all the games I queued up.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so how can I fix it? Or is my hard drive just faulty? It is a siliconpower 2TB armor A60. Thank you.

Xbox One's HDD is clearly problematic. Not future-proof at all.

I read the Xbox One console will ONLY allow you to install games (installing games is mandatory) to the Xbox One consoles pewny 500GB HDD and the console will not allow you to save it to an external HDD via one of the consoles 3.0 USB ports.

NEW NEWS. It has been confirmed as well as having to use an external HDD it also has to be a separate HDD to the game saves /installs one. Thus necessitatingb the need for a second separate ext HDD. That blows! So I would have to price in a new HDD as well as a TV tuner.

 

Anyone? Would like help on this.

 

That drive has a 3yr warranty so thats good, i'd format it on your PC and copy lots of data to it several times and see if you get any errors. It seems the perfect drive for the XB1 so thats all i can suggest - Have you tried MS support?

 

is the external hd set as destination to install content instead of internal

Clear Persistent Storage

Go to Settings -> Disc & Blu-ray -> Persistent Storage and hit "Clear Persistent Storage" - This is apparently a non-recyclable "temp" area for the OS. I'm guessing that its public writable, which would mean that there may well be various lock files in there
that could get corrupted, thus cause issues.

Clear Alternate Mac Address

Not sure why this one would help, but I actioned the two tips combined, so placing here for completeness. Go to Settings -> Network -> Advanced Settings -> Alternate Mac Address -> Clear. (This may well force a restart)

Cycle Power

Cold reboot. Hold the power button down (on the system) for around 10 seconds. Then unplug EVERYTHING! Leave for around a minute. Then reboot with all your devices and peripherals as normal.
