Xbox one no longer recognizes external SSD after Aug 4 update

I had an issue today after a mandatory system update I was tinkering with the new Cortana and trying to check out any new changes when I noticed I was getting notifications of apps being installed, the apps were all ones I previously had installed, after
investigating I quickly realized my external SSD was no longer recognized and I had a long list of ready to install games. I powered down unplugged restarted and reconnected the SSD but the Xbox one would not recognize it, it was as if it was not there. in
the process of troubleshooting I connected it to my PC and it was recognized as an unallocated drive and windows would not allow me an option to format it although I could have reformatted it with paragon HD software I chose not to in hopes that all my installed
games may still be there, I attempted once more to connect it to my console but it was a no go so I plugged it back to my PC and when I pulled up disk management there was a this time a notification, something about unrecognized GPD partition style and assigned
a drive letter path, I don't remember all of what it said I just clicked yes and then windows added a system management partition which is about 200Mb all my Pc drives have this same partition and to my understanding is normal for pc drives but not Xbox one as
far as I know plugged back into the xbone still a no go then back to the Pc I thought with the system management partition I would be able to reformate but windows would still not show any option under drive management or any other options to reformate so
I decided to remove the system management partition which in my case required me to use my paragon software after removing that partition the drive was back to fully unallocated so I tried one more time before reformatting to connect it to the xbone and lone
behold it was recognizes as a fresh drive and gave me the option to use as media storage or reformate for games use so I cut my losses and reformatted, of course as I'm writing this have 29 queued installations most of which is small DLC that wont take long
and about six hard copies to reinstall. As far as I can tell this system update wiped the drive and left it unrecognizable by the console and even unformatable by windows. I'm curious if this has happened to any one else and if there is any workaround that
doesn't involve losing all your installed games as depending on how much you have installed this can take an entire day to get back, I don't have the free time I used to when I was younger and often I just buy games I want to play some I don't finish for a
year and this is nuisance to me because I have lost a chance at some gaming enjoyment and I'm lucky if I have 10 hours a week to play.

My xbox one no longer recognizes my external hard drive after the update.

 

External Hard Drive not recognized after update

Prior to the most recent update, my 1TB external hard drive held most of my installed Xbox One games. After my system updated today it no longer recognizes the external hard drive at all.

I have followed through the external storage device troubleshooting guide and followed each step with no change.

Was this affected by the most recent updates?

 

I too am having this problem. None of the troubleshooting threads worked for me and am still waiting for a response from Microsoft after 3 days. This makes me believe they know it is a issue but have no clue how to fix it.

 

Sorry to hear you got hit with this to, if you still cant get the XBone to recognize the drive I suggest you try what I did, if you can get your pc to reformat it by any means then it should show up as a fresh HD on the XBone. In my case windows 10 saw the
drive as unallocated but could not reformat it, I just hope you don't have a TB of games to reinstall. Regarding MS support on this issue I wouldn't expect much unless all of XBL was having the same issue, I managed to find very few threads whit this type
of problem and the cases are far and wide so these kind of isolated incidences tend to get swept under the rug.

It appears that a lot of people are having issues with external drives in their consoles. Some of them manage to fix this by reformatting their drives. Others seem to have their problems solved by themselves by simply powering down the console for a few
hours.

Captain_WD. Try adjusting the usb that it is in unplug that and put it in another sub port. That should work it worked for me.

Trying other cables as well is also another popular step in the troubleshooting path.
