does the xbox one take full advantage of ipv6 yet? i see when i use the browser to go to test-ipv6.com it gets 10/10. however when i look at the ip settings it shows an ipv4 address. does this mean its preferring ipv4 and will use ipv6 as well.. why cant
    it prefer ipv6 first? thanks

    :)

    wifi issues

So recently my xbox one has not been able to connect to my wifi network. It has before in the past and one day up and stopped working. I've called xbox customer support and went through troubleshoot steps with them but so far they have not helped. The wifi network shows up but whenever i try to test the network connection i get an error message that says 'cannot get an IP address'. I tried a wired connection and that works but i am not able to keep it wired all the time. If anyone might have a solution please help!

I'm sure the Xbox One can handle both; ipv4 or ipv6 is determined by your network setup, not your Xbox One console.

all my devices get an ipv6 address they just get a v4 and v6 address.. doest seem like they "prefer" ipv6. exapmple when i go to settings on the xb1 i can only set it to use a static ipv4 address.. shouldnt you be able to statically set a v6 address to.

If my understanding is correct, there is no more free version 4 addresses. I do not understand why it would make a difference how your network is setup, or why someone would even care. Anyone care to clarify? Perhaps ICESTORM III, he seems to know a lot
    about this stuff.

    Peace, J.R.

depends on your setup, is your ISP offering IPv6? is your router set to bridge mode?

the main point of IPv6 is that every device connecting to a network will have a publicly visible IP address, the problem with IPv4 is that there are not enough public addresses, so in most cases a public IPv4 is assigned to your router from your ISP, then
the router creates its own network of IPv4 addresses and assigns them to your devices, like the X1, computers, tablets and so on.

so in order for all of your devices to pull a IPv6 addresses, your router has to be set to bridge to allow your devices to go to Comcast and request a IPv6 address, otherwise your devices are just going as far as your router for an IP, which by default,
most routers will assign a IPv4.

if you have a Comcast modem/router combo, then you'd want to check with Comcast.

And from my understanding this switch was starting to occur in 2010/2011. My router and I.S.P. support version 6, but still fail to understand why this is important to the general consumer.

for most people it really won't make a difference, for gamers it means no NAT issues without having to deal port forwards and what have you.
