Another way of doing it is by placing a device in the DMZ. A device in the DMZ will by default receive all unsolicited incoming request (obviously if a firewall is running on that device then you should also configure it to allow the connection to be established).

So in reality there is no real difference between opening a port and forwarding a port.

 

@Andy111777 - Based on your description that you have lots of numbers and letters in your IP configuration it _sounds_ like you're currently using IPV6, not IPV4. (Does your IP address start with fe80? If so you're using IPV6)

Take a look at the network settings on your Xbox, does the IP address start with a number? Or with the fe80?

(You can actually even go there in IE on the Xbox.)

Xbox Ones are able to use IPV6 but you want to ensure that you are setting a non-static IP address on your router (DHCP reservations are ok, just not static assigned addresses.)
