  1. Xbox one NAT moderate

I have been playing the xbox one for an year, and for an year I have waited for Microsoft to address the NAT issue the X1 has. It seems I have waited for nought.

Can anyone please tell me why a 500 dollar eight generation console is unable to get an open NAT while my old scarred X360 does in its sleep?

I have never had, and still do not have NAT problems in my 360, but the X1 has always been, and still is a ungodly, hateful pain, always moderate, never open.

Before peoples start asking, amd I know they will, I have done all the book worth of procedures, port forwwatding, DMZ, I cracked my head through it all. And no, I am not playing both consoles at the same time.

What I want to know is why the X1 is so infuriatingly troublesome, and why after an year of updates it has not been fixed yet. I would very much like an actual explanation by MS themselves, instead of pretending it does not exist, and throwing all at the
ambassadors backs, who are helpful, but no engineers.

Can someone, preferably some Microsoft boffin, make it clear to me what is the problem?

    Thank you.

    :)

does ethernet xbox one download faster?

and I were actually talking about this the other day.

In both of our situations, our NAT is moderate via wifi, but open via ethernet cable.

    Xbox one NAT moderate

    Greetings Spartan!

Let's try and find out why your Xbox One is unable to discover and get diagnosed with an Open NAT type, but before we proceed, I would like you to answer a few valuable questions, so that people trying to help can have a much better understanding of your
    situation.

    Please read:
forums.xbox.com/.../1621667.aspx And post back in full detail (the questions in bold).

Also, beside explicit rules (Port Forwarding, DMZ) what else have you tried? Just so we don't provide you with solutions that will only echo back.

    TIA!

  5. Hello, I have tried multiple modems and routers, both wired and wireless, UPnP is enabled. The diagnostic says I am behind a UPnP port restricted NAT..

The problem is both the 360 and xbox one require port 3074 to be open to get an open NAT.

Unfortunately there are hell of a lot of routers out there with poor UPnP support meaning they have problems if you own more than one xbox or even if you own a playstation as well as an xbox and play any activision games on it they also need port 3074

You really need to post the make and model number of your router though for anyone to be able to help you.

Also post any information on other consoles on your network and whether you have already done any port forwarding for them.

Try answer the questions up front, and we'll work from there.

What Country/State/Province do you live in?

    Modem brand & model number:

    Router brand & model number:

How many 360 and One consoles are connected to this router?:

Wired or wireless (for each console):

    Things you have tried:

    Is UPnP Enabled? Yes/no/Unknown

Do you have a NAT error? If so, what is your NAT type?

    Any Error Codes you encounter:

Who is your ISP?(Internet Service Provider):

    TIA!

That is what troubles me, I have tried many routers and they all came back with the same problem.

    Currentky I am using a Netgear WNDR4500.

I have spent days creeping through the forum, trying everything suggested on other posts but they were all for nought. Even the guys who started those posts were unable to find aswers.

    Thank you.

According to the network hardware forums here
    forums.xbox.com/.../3114.aspx

Your router has confirmed multi-console support so should work without any issues.

Have you tried factory resetting the router?

Before doing this make sure the console is fully shut down by holding the power button for about 5 seconds. Once light on power brick turns orange you should disconnect the power.

Once you have factory reset the router and reconnected it to the internet check to make sure that UPnP is switched on in the router settings then try powering on the xbox 1 and doing a network test again.

Because you own both a 360 and an xbox one you must NOT use port forwarding or DMZ no matter what anyone else says as that will cause problems.

You may need to use the address reservation settings(AKA DHCP reservation) in the router to always give the xbox the same IP address though. Don't set a static IP in the xbox ones own settings though as I've found that can stop UPnP from working. So the
IP settings in the xbox settings app should be set to automatic.

  11. I use a Pace GP5607.

I can not even start to fathom what the Microsoft engineers had in mind when designing this console, it still is a pain, and it still is not working properly, but I seem to have found a workaround, setting an static IP - it may be anything, any gibberish
    - and then setting it back on auto appear to open the NAT, at least temporarely.

This takes me back to my original question, what hateful herb were they on when designing it? Why does it behave so erratically?

Thank you all for your imput.

    Xbox one NAT moderate

You can't have both at the same time..... I had this problem when i first started playing on Xbox One. Not sure if you still have your 360 connected but just put it away and you should be good. Might tale a couple of resets and tests but your X1 should go
    to Open NAT.

I have found a trick that works but cannot understand why it does tbh...

Upon power up my Xbox One registers a moderate NAT, everytime.

I go to Network Settings and select Test Multiplayer Connection.

Run the test but hold down all four controller triggers until the test completes.

Once run a diagnostic screen should show various pieces of network data but also show a message on the right hand column showing "Gathering NAT information".

After a few seconds you will get a message saying one of a few things:

"your network is behind a port restricted NAT" or "your network is behind a cone NAT".

Keep running the test with the four triggers held until the message states that your network is behind a cone NAT.

As and when you succeed you will find that when you go back to the network setting screen your NAT will have changed to open?

    Every time?

I have to do this upon every power up which suggests to me it's a console related issue as opposed to a network issue in this instance.

I use a BT Homehub 5 on a fibre optic connection.

    Hope this helps...

    @SpartanOfTheArk

There is a bug in instant on mode that can cause NAT to go moderate or strict even if you are using a router with multi-console support.

I read on a previous thread maybe in the preview forums that this is being looked into but there is no ETA on a fix. I've found that using DHCP reservation in the router settings helps with this (on my router anyway).

    @Aaron86V

You can have both at the same time provided you only use UPnP and your router has confirmed multi-console support. A lot of routers don't have multi-console support unfortunately.

I think this could have been avoided if Microsoft had used a different UDP port for the xbox one instead of port 3074. It seems like a bad design decision to me. There are 65535 ports to choose from and they choose to use the same port as the 360 which causes
problems for loads of people who own both consoles.
