Why does the xbox one only go up to 1480 when you run a detailed network test? I am with BT and they have a default MTU of 1500 should I set my MTU to 1480? I did try ask MS on the chat service but they ended the chat so I didnt get an answer.

    1500 isnt better than 1480.

    1480 is just fine.

Any lag will be caused by other things

To start with the BT homehubs are not fit for purpose

The wireless on them is prone to jitter which is a cause of lag

If you are using wireless then try wired.

Also the hubs have dodgy UPnP which either isn't fully compatible with Xbox one or just randomly stops working depending on the hub version. This causes NAT issues.

After having no end of problems with live due to the homehub 5s not being fully compatible with xbox one(and ps4 which proves the hub is to blame) I binned it and bought a tplink router.

Now after setting up static ips using address reservation I almost always have an open NAT and lag is rare. I also get full connection speed for my line of 75meg which the home hub couldnt even manage wired. All this is with an MTU of 1480.

I'm interested in the 1480 as well. If the router is set to 1500 but the Xbox shows 1480 on the network test what is going on?

I know for a fact that changing settings on my router that other people say doesn't matter does make a difference for me.

It's a real thing when you can feel it in the responsiveness of the game and the accuracy and damage of the guns (hit detection for example). I'm not talking about never having issues I'm talking about instead of problems 90% of the time to problems 10%
    of the time.

An example of things not being the same that would cause a problem if you set your router to give a static ip of .150 and tell your Xbox to use .148. Probably get a problem if you did so.

1480 is normal for xbox live.

My router is 1492 but xbox live still 1480

Don't worry about it. Any lag you have will be caused by other things like wifi jitter or interference or maybe even just network congestion
