Xbox One Mic won't let me talk but can hear

I got my Xbox One in December and now the mic that came with it stopped working. In tested it with the troubleshoot steps and I found it was a hardware problem. I assume it is a problem where the wire connects to the mic controls. Any DIY fixes?

My Mic lets me hear stuff but it won't let me talk.

I've tried restarting my Xbox power cycling it, testing my mic with other controllers but my mic still won't let me talk. I know it works cause I talk with it on the phone. Please help.

Im having the same problem. The mute button was stuck on. So i updated the controller and now the mute button flashes. Anybody else have a flashing mute button?

Hi Baron,

Sign yourself in as usual plug your mic in and then try this:

Go to the home screen

Select your little profile icon at the top left next to notifications

Select Choose This Person on your profile

Test it in a party with just yourself in, you should see the green blip light up if it's picking up your voice.

What cable is required to update the controller? Also, in a party, I can hear and can't talk, so I must be signed in.

A USB to Mini USB cable can be used to update the controller if you don't have a Play & Charge Kit.

You are saying you are already signed in but did you try what I suggested above after signing in? Also, does the mute switch turn orange when pressed?

He means a micro USB cable... Other than that, try what he mentioned in his first post because we've found that often works. That or a power cycle (support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console).

Oh, and another thing, sorry haha if I'm too troublesome, but is it possible to check for me if I have a communications ban or something of that nature because I've tried four different mics and as of now all of them allow me to hear other players but won't
let me talk to them, but when I use my Kinect I can, weird huh? Or and one of the mics worked for a couple weeks when the others didn't and then it did the same can hear but can't talk thing a couple of days ago.

Headphones that allowed me to hear background noises and talk on the mic only let me talk on the mic. They were compatiable.
