I use the Xbox One SmartGlass app for all my messaging, works perfectly. Using a controller to type something out seems like more work than it needs to be. Get keyboard or just use SmartGlass.

Voice messaging is pretty popular on the feedback site. I personally use smartglass but I'm usually sitting next to an open laptop while playing Xbox so that wouldn't work for some. I'd be a fan of a chat adapter with a keyboard too. It's impossible
not to stop what your doing t send a message but not putting the controller down is a plus. I'm gonna hit the feedback site and see what people are saying about that because it's a pretty sweet idea.

Personally I think they should just drop messaging and ensure tighter integration with Skype (and also maybe SMS messaging) - as Skype can do text and voice messaging.

Why reinvent the wheel there are better messaging systems/apps out there - they just need tighter/seamless integration.

If I remember right, this suggestion was made in another thread before. The way I understand it, in order to Skype with someone and/or send text, voice messages via Skype, you
have to have that person's email and be on their 'Skype list'?

Even if all you need is their email, I have nearly 100 friends (I used weed out my list regularly... guess I don't need to now) and several followers I haven't added yet. The last
thing I want to do is track down a bunch of peoples' email addresses and/or set it all up so that I can use Skype to send messages to friends. Why should I need to...

Previously, all I had to do (on my 360) was pull up a friend and decide to send either a voice or a text message. I didn't need a Skype account or some other app setup and I didn't
need an email or any other information about the recipient at all. Just find them on your list and send a message. You really can't get less seamless than that. If you ask me, trying to integrate Skype, as opposed to just adding voice messaging, would actually
    be 'reinventing the wheel'.

To be honest - MS could easily enhance Skype to work off GTs too - i.e. Skype needs to know the email address not you Xbox One Messaging is Just Bad... ;)

Similarly with using SMS - I wouldn't expect "friends" to expose mobile numbers to each other - MS has mobile number on account hence could send texts.

It's all opinion - but IMO - creating yet another (or re-enabling an old) messaging system when we already have so many others (Skype, SMS, Facebook, Twitter, et all) is overkill and "noise".

I prefer messaging to stay with the xbox division of microsoft. With skype if you chose to add any personal info you cant change it ti private its stuck on public. Xbox 360 and xbox.com have a messaging service I dont want ti rely on another division of
microsoft or 3rd party and xbox 1 IS XBOX. Cant believe if the development team didnt know voice messaging is popular esp with kids and young peps.

I just realized the other day that you can be in a Skype Call on Xbox 1 and do other things. Makes sense and I'm embarrassed I never tried it. THis thread got me wondering so I checked it out.

My own personal perspective on the chat system for the Xbox One is it needs some serious changes. I did not own a Xbox 360 for more than a few weeks so I can't speak on that but I do own some really nice gaming computer. The interface needs to be more keyboard
friendly. I should be able to reply to last person simply by hitting enter just like I would on a computer in an online game. Maybe some type of option to bind the enter key to different functions such as reply to last, reply to specific, etc?

Couldn't disagree more - keyboards are for PCs. The interface of a console should/must be best WITHOUT a keyboard. If I wanted to use a keyboard I'd use my PC.

Another reason is because there's no voice messaging. An X-B-O-X feature which Xbox 360 has. Not even between other Xbox 1 consoles. Many of my friends are people I meet on Xbox Live said that Microsoft could bring this out in a future update.

M hasn't released an official chatpad yet but the SmartGlass app works brilliantly if you have a smartphone or tablet. Your Dashboard performance depends on your Internet Speed and the way Microsoft makes the Dashboard although they will release updates
to help improve Dashboard performance. Even when I joined late 2010 on Xbox 360 there has been A LOT of Dashboard UPDATES for that console.

Either way, you have to stop playing your game momentarily to type your message, dragon. ;)

I didn't have Xbox 360 but speaking from a PC gamer perspective I will have to agree with the whole message system needing a revamp in many ways. Needs to have faster response to keystrokes, getting to the message section takes too long, keyboard should
work as it does like a computer, etc.
