Xbox One Media Remote Volume Problems

I just got my Media Remote in and it's fantastic. Works like a dream when navigating. Everything is really responsive... except for the volume commands. They require that I either stand within 5 feet of the console, past 15 feet, or over against the wall.

It's like there is some weird IR deadzone having to do with my sound bar in my immediate viewing/playing area. I actually got the remote so I wouldn't have to have a separate remote just for volume, so this is a bit of an issue.

It's not the setup of the Kinect, because smart glass has never had a problem sending volume controls to my receiver. It turns on and off without a hitch thanks to the Kinect. The media remote controls my cable box perfectly.

It's only the volume and it's only in certain parts of the room. It's bizarre. Any suggestions?

    :)

Does any one have any problems with the Xbox One Media Remote? All the functions on the remote work except for volume.

    Some more information:

If I remove my Sony soundbar from my device list on my One, the Media Remote controls the TV volume flawlessly. It also controls the cable box flawlessly. So it's some sort of issue with the soundbar.

Smart Glass works great and my soundbar turns on and off with my system without fail, so I know the IR blaster works and is set properly for it.

But when I try and specifically control me soundbar with my media remote, it only works in strange places in the room. Within 5 feet or past 15, or up against the wall in front of the receiver.

It sounds like the Kinect IR signals are being interfered with somehow by the remote IR signals..

What's up with this! Same thing. My volume/ mute will NOT work between 0.5m- 8meters (At the wall). This is bogus! Most couches around the world are around that range! Thought it was my glass coffee table interfering with the IR signal at first but then
I covered it & had no change. Thinking of giving it back tomorrow. First Its was the Xbox on, now this. Far out.

  7. Unfortunately, running into the same issue here. I wonder if a replacement would be any better or if they all work the same way and it has to do with my living room setup.

Xbox One Media Remote Volume Problems

I had the same problem but I figured it out by pointing the remote up and almost in a straight line to the kinect

Its weird how this is the only function that needs to be pointed up to do this

I have this same issue with the remote not always controlling the volume on my Sony sound bar. One other thing I noticed besides the hit or miss volume control is that my Xbox won't change the volume either through remote control or voice control for the
first 5 or so minutes after the Xbox starts. Going to try to unplug and restart to see if that fixes the issue but I agree very annoying, the remote works ok besides that.

I just got a soundbar and am having this issue as well. Hopefully they can fix this with an update, but it doesn't seem to have their attention, yet. I don't under stand how the voice commands and the smart glass app can control the volume with ease, but
the remote doesn't work. Don't all three send the same command to the kinect?

I have the same issue. Have been tweeting with Xbox Support for months now on this topic. They finally got back to me today, and all they could offer was to re-arrange my AV setup. Not really viable when most of us store our components directly below
the TV and the sound-bar is right in front of the TV. I have the exact same problem, everything works fine at 1ft, after that no luck.

xbox one media remote control tv volume WITHOUT Kinect ... possible?

    No, it's not a universal remote: (www.xbox.com/.../media-remote)

The remote controls TV/receiver power and volume through Kinect, or an IR extender cable (cable not included).

You need Kinect or IR Extenders.
