Xbox One Media Remote can no longer bring up the shutdown options

My official Xbox One Media Remote can no longer bring up the shutdown options (turn off, send feedback) by holding the Xbox button.

Everything else works fine, including the Xbox button for other uses.

Software issue, or is my remote faulty?

There's already the
Xbox One Media Remote, and you could also already use your smartphone as a remote for the Xbox (with the free, official Xbox App).

The latter option pops up your smartphone's keyboard whenever text input is needed on the Xbox.

I’m enrolled in the Xbox Insider console update preview program and have noticed a change to functionality of the Xbox button on the Media Remote.

Until the most recent update preview, press and hold of the Xbox button would give the power off option. Now, pressing this button only brings up the side blade - no power off option.

Is this intentional, or a bug?

 

I have the exact same problem. Even had it replaced with a new one, no results.

It still goes back to the home screen but it won't go to the shutdown sreen.

it work't before but suddenly stopped working.

I'm thinking it's a software issue with an update ore something.

 

Someone also reported this in the preview program forum section (maybe it was one of you guys), although I've just tried mine and it still works fine and I can hold the main button down to bring up the power off option. I'm on the latest preview dashboard.

If you're in the preview program, I would find the thread on this in the preview program forum section and add your voice to that. It does sound like it's a software issue, considering it worked before the dashboard update and you've tried a new remote and
that does the same thing.

 

Actually, I've just found the thread and the guy that was having that problem replaced his batteries with some fresh ones and the issue went away, so give that a try if you haven't already.

It was the batteries, lol.

I didn't think to check them at first because I assumed that if everything else was working fine then surely it would not be the batteries.

But then I decided to try changing them anyway, just in case, and the problem went away.

Looks like they still had enough juice left for other functions, but not enough to hold down the Xbox button.
