XBox One Media Player

I Bought an XBoxX for the 4K and Atmos but the media player is broken and a fraud. I can't play a movie without it crashing and there is no 'resume video' function, which is technology that's been around for a decade (see WDTV)!

This is a scam. You can't be this incompetent without it being part of a strategy to limit Xbox usage. You succeeded. I will return my Xbox X due to its Trumpness and buy a ROKU.

How do you get away with this? Don't you have any QA or read customer feedback during the last 4 years.

I can email you the code to fix it, it'll take about 5 minutes and only cost 1.4 million with a $250k Christmas bonus for the next 4 years.

Microsoft admin needs to investigate this because I smell industrial sabotage by employee spies from ROKU.

Xboxes’ media player is like lawn mower tires on a Ferrari. Shame!

NEWS: Dolby Atmos coming to Xbox One & Windows 10

Does anyone know if this will be applied to the media player?
Would love a simple kodi like solution on the xbox one.

xbox one hopeless media player

I use a Synology DS214Play with Plex and the XBox One and it plays pretty much everything, the media player on the Xbox is fine with the Plex Library too.

absolutely agree, Microsoft is unable (or intentionally unwilling?) to properly set up audio/video properties of the XB1S/X consoles, and has been a for a looong time now...Media Player and Movies app are still incapable of properly playing back HD audio
formats off USB, the app itself (Media Player) hasn´t been updated for like a year...

the VLC app team said they tried to contact Microsoft in order to obtain access to the Exclusive Mode in SDK so they could do something with bitstream capability, Microsoft wouldn´t respond...it´s a clear nonsense

Lack of testing, there is no apparent AV team internally at Xbox which is why it's approach is so messy and uneven. This why other boxes like Nvidia Shield or AppleTV outperform it.

The digital media player of Xbox is nothing more than Windows Media Player so very basic in operation.

Atmos is known to be buggy on Xbox due to the way MS have to inject system audio like UI sounds into the Atmos stream, they have a very complex audio upmix system which tries to make it work but doesn't always.

Thanks for your response! If your NAS supports DLNA, the Xbox One will be able to play media using the

"Media Player" application. Simply open Media Player, allow it to detect the server on your network, browse your media, and play!

I am having the exact same issue. Uninstalled Media Player and now it's unavailable... Very frustrating. Why does Xbox One Media Player feel like a huge step back from Xbox 360 Media Player?

Check your files to see if they were encoded with a format not listed here:

For example, h.265 encoded .mkv files will not play, or be properly recognized by the Xbox One media player.

Windows Media Player already installed in Windows 7 (or a free download if you have the N version). Xbox One Media Player to play that content. You can control all playback functions with Kinect.

Alternatively purchase NAS with built in media server. Use Xbox One's Media Player to playback content. Use Kinect to control playback.

Buy a media remote if you don't have Kinect.

You seem to be adding needlessly complex steps to your media playback.

So do i and streaming works fine.

I had to allow streaming to xbox one in windows media player then leave windows media player and the media player app on x1 running for a few minutes before it started working.

XBox One Media Player
