XBOX ONE Media Player no longer finds music on network

when trying to stream music on my PC using media player app, I do this because playlists are also playable, the music files are no longer found. Video files and picture files are still able to be streamed. I am wondering since the add of music to onedrive
and xbox music did they remove the ability to stream music with media player. on another note the media player on the One is awful compared the players on the 360.

this article is about the xbox music app. not the xbox one. i cant imagine the xbox one wont let you stream media from your network. that would be a huge step backwards. i just read this as the xbox music app only access music from the cloud, so if you want
to put your music on the cloud you have to pay for that service.

the media player and libraries should be able to be told to access files on the local hdd, the external hdd, or a network hdd. if not it wont be long before someone makes an app to do it.

 

Can't stream media to my Xbox One

Earlier today I streamed an album to my Xbox One, and now every time I attempt to stream something to my Xbox I get the "Failed to retrieve media information from media server" message. Nothing will stream to it now, as I get the same error message each
time. This impacts Music and movies. In addition, yesterday I found out that media will only play once before no longer working streaming.

I have restarted Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and UPnP Device Host, and there has been no change.

Both Computer and Xbox One are wired.

Hey there, sc0ttw! I'm sorry to see any streaming issues. The ability to stream music from your PC has not been removed, so let's see if we can figure out what is going on.

Most of the time, a firewall is what is blocking music files from being streamed. Has your antivirus on your computer recently updated and possibly caused the music to no longer be seen?

If not, how are your PC and your Xbox One connected to the router in your house? Are they both wired, wireless, or is one wired and one wireless?

Additionally, if you could post up what router you have, this will help us ensure there are no known issues with that device that could be blocking this for any reason.

Get back to me with this, and we'll see if we can get to the bottom of this!

 

Some additional points. I have a Verizon MI424WR router. Both XBOX One and PC are wired. I can stream pictures and videos using xbox one media player from my PC but when I click on a music file it indicates no files found. I can stream music on my XBOX
360 from my PC using the music player. I looked at my antivirus (MS Security Essentials) and Windows firewall is on but I don't see anything that would only block music to the xbox one.

 

Further Info. PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. Music folder is shared the same as pictures and video folders. I am able to use play to feature on windows media player on pc to play music on the xbox one.
