Xbox one massive download size

Hi all!

Looking for some information / help regarding the download size for games on Xbox One. I recently (2 days ago) bought an Xbox one S with Gears of War 4 (physical disc version) after having been convinced my 360 was getting on in years. After installing the
disc which took about 20 minutes it's now less than halfway into a MASSIVE 49.3GB download after 6 hours?!? At my current speed (7mbps) it's going to take 14 hours and take up a quarter of my 500GB hard drive. As it's the first Xbox One game I've purchased
I wanted to check if they're all like this? You buy a game that you may be able to play 24 hours later? I'm a bit older so I'm used to the painful loading times of a ZX spectrum but this out of hand. Should I have stayed with the 360 and return the Xbox one
if I (naively) want to play a game I've bought straight away?

Download times

The problem with comparing to Xbox 36 games is the massive difference is size.

On Xbox 360, game downloads were usually 5-8GB for a big game. CoD: AW is 45GB or so.

There have also been widespread issues with everyone's downloads for this game being slow, which certainly does not help.

It very much depends on your download speed too (and the massive increase in size between Xbox 360 and Xbox One) but your future downloads should be faster than Advanced Warfare, which has been affected by some issues.

Game sizes can vary, but in general they are going to be much larger than 360 games basically due to different technology. So that is very normal.

It depends on the game, surely the oldest games have big patches to download. Alternatively, you can install the game by postponing updates to speed up installation.

Next-gen games have assets larger than the X360 and with a 7 mega connection it is slower downloading updates.

Thanks! I hadn't thought about it having to catch up with every download that had ever been released! The Xbox One X games would probably take a week to download at my speed!

 

I feel it is a bit presumptuous of MS to think everyone has the bandwidth to download massive files like this. I am having issues with Forza 7 forcing a 63 gig update before the game will launch. On my pathetic IS it will take at least a week if not longer!
If nothing else they should allow the update to download in its entirety as a separate file that can be installed at the users leisure. Sadly this the trend for most software delivery.
