Xbox one making buzzing sound when not playing games

Ok so i bought my Xbox one this Monday ( June 9th 2014) and from the moment I updated my console to the latest OS version, I started to hear this obvious buzzing noise. I've searched my problem and I see I'm not the only one.
For the people that are going to tell me it's the fan, it's not, I powered the One down and stuck a piece of thin wood to stop the fan from rotating and tuned it on, the noise continued.... One thing that ive noticed
is that the sound will not be as bad if im playing a game, it will be almost silent, I'll post a video on YouTube so maybe someone else can see my pain. I'm honestly wondering if i should return this one to best buy... and get a replacment.

Xbox One Buzzes while installing game

The Xbox One console works well, BUT when I insert a game disc, it creates a buzzing sound while installing it. The buzzing is quite loud. It does NOT buzz when playing a bluray. It also does not buzz after the game (BF4) is installed and playing.

If I apply light pressure to the top of the XBox, the buzzing stops.

Should I take back to Best Buy where I bought it?

Yeah, this is odd. My Xbox 360 Slim doesn't make a buzzing noise when i'm not playing a game but when I put a game in (even though it's installed), my xbox will make a buzzing noise for about a couple minutes then go off, but get this, I got the new Ghost
Recon Future Soldier and when I put that game in, the buzzing noise even sounds worse! I did put another game in to see if it was just the xbox but it turns out, the really bad buzzing sound only comes from Ghost Recon and the other games just make a buzzing
sound, not the really bad sounding one.

But what is this? Why does Ghost Recon make my xbox go crazy? I installed it so whats the problem?

 

Thing of it is, it is "a" fan making that noise. The system has two. The fact that you blocked the primary fan by the side vent obviously isn't going to stop it, and updating the software isn't going to cause it. The secondary fan only really runs while
your not playing games, as the spinning disc from the ODD is nearly a fan unto itself, and the system doesn't require as much cooling as it's now pulling some of it's processing power from the ODD and HDD combined instead of just the HDD. It's probably just
a bit of packing plastic that didn't get completely removed from the fan when it was installed. I don't think it's going to hurt anything, but the system is supposed to be whisper quiet and since it's still under warranty and you have the option to take it
back to Best Buy and swap it out, there really is no sense in taking an unnecessary risk. Might as well go swap it.

Just picked up another one, same sound... So I'm guessing this is how there suppose to sound maybe? This is killing me. Im guessing its something with the 399 version, like MS went cheap on the ones without kinect..

 

They are the same console, just one without Kinect. I personally have no sound like that, but nor have I stuck a piece of wood in my XB1 to stop the fan. In your video I could hardly hear anything to be honest, and I blared my speakers to try to hear what
is you are speaking of. Perhaps your set up is a little cluttered, and the noise that you are hearing is a little more amplified due to your set up.

 

Its whatever, to me it sounds like HDD activity somewhat. I'm not too worried about it since I got another one and the sound remains. If it ends up keeling over from a manufacturing error I'm sure Microsoft will help me out. As long as I keep a game/ heavy
resourced app active, the sound will cease, I know for a fact its the update tbough, the sound didn't start until I updated to the latest patch, I hope its fixed for select consoles doing this. Thanks for your guy's ideas.

 

You are most welcome. The sound was very discreet in your video, though I am sure it was louder in person. With that being said you are right. Microsoft will help you out if anything were to happen since you are covered by your warranty. Be sure to register

Glad we were able to help Deka. I would definitely keep an eye on it and if it gives you any trouble then give support a call and let them know so they can help. You're warranty does cover the system itself for 1 year. I'm no salesman btw, but I do recommend
as you are within your first 45 days of ownership that you call support anyway, make sure you're registered and that you purchase the Microsoft Complete plan, which is their extended warranty plan and give you an additional 2 years of coverage. But yes, if
something happens, then you will be covered.
