Xbox ONE Live Gold has never worked?

Have you tried to remove your profile and re-add it to the console? Sometimes a new subscription can take 24 to 48hrs to populate across all games and apps. Re-downloading the profile to your console can speed up that process though.

it is possible that does not work with your account because it is a free trial, that means it only works with accounts which has never activated xbox live gold

was he previously a xbox live gamer or has he just opened a new xbox live account, because I think it only works if its the persons first upgrade to gold account and has never previously been on live with that gamertag

As written, he has a valid xbox live gold membership and he has NEVER bin banned from xbox live. He has also never modded his console.

I do never had gold membership, but it has always worked for me & others I know.

are you saying that you have never had Xbox Live Gold on your account?

if that is the case then you were able to play online by mistake. it would seem that whatever the mistake was, it has now been corrected and Xbox Live Gold (or Game Pass Ultimate) is now required for you to play online.

or it could be that you had your Xbox as the Home Xbox for an account that does have Xbox Live Gold and they have set a different Xbox as their Home, which would result in you losing the benefits of Gold.
