Xbox One Kinect Adaptor for S/X models has Sold Out! with no further production planned.

Microsoft has stopped manufacturing AND has SOLD OUT their Kinect cable

    https://www.xbox.com/en-NZ/xbox-one/accessories/kinect/kinect-adapter

The Xbox One Original console does NOT need a special cable to connect the Kinect to it. However the S model and the upcoming Xbox One X model need it. That's the advantage of the original console model.

All NZ and Australian retailers (physical and online) have sold out. And lol, even Microsoft's store, the manufacturer themselves, have sold out!

It is a lot more understandable now why people won't use Kinect. However you can buy non-official 3rd party adaptors. I know one NZ popular site where someone is selling such a thing for $24. Mighty ape a popular NZ online site has also sold out.

The fact that most retailers around the world especially in Australia/New Zealand has sold out, is that Microsoft did not manufacturer enough of them. If people think Kinect is dead, why is this device sold out??

However I will aim to get one, even if I have to order it from the UK/US amazon thingy. Or I could get a 3rd party unofficial from a NZ retailer.

    :)

    Xbox one Kinect adapter

What lies? No where is it stated that the xbox one x comes with a Kinect adaptor.

It was announced in October that production of the Kinect had stopped & recently the adaptor as well.

5 minutes searching would of told you that.

The xbox one x does support all of your accessories, including the Kinect. You just have to find the adapter to use it

  3. Xbox S One Kinect adapter

There was only one kind of USB Kinect adapter, and it was meant to be used on either the Xbox One S or Xbox One X.

Microsoft has discontinued production on this adapter recently. There are no news of
another adapter in the works, or restocks of the current one.

If you wish to play Kinect games on your Xbox One S/X, you'll have to find an adapter from a third-party reseller, or use an original model Xbox One console.

Actually.... I haven't even sold my original Xbox One yet. So I'll have two Xbox One's. One where I can use my Kinect with without the need for a Kinect adaptor (original models have a dedicated Kinect port built in)..... and the
other for high visual fidelity-ness. Found out EBay Australia is selling a Kinect adaptor for a silly price of AU$249, the amazon doesn't ship to NZ with this product. Microsoft sold it for NZ$64 but is permanently out of stock. And Mightyape NZ last sold
one early last month. Kind of been unprepared and was expecting Microsoft being the manufacturer to be in stock which they aren't.

And while on the subject of Kinect, I just found out my Xbox 360 Slim 250GB console has a dedicated Kinect port. But it's for the 360 Kinect which I've never had. Kinect is a great innovative piece of technology. Greatly cheaper than VR (which costs a couple
of hundred dollars, Sony has set a price of RRP NZ$649 for there's). I don't think I'll invest in second hand used Kinect hardware. But I'm glad Microsoft pushed me to get Kinect for Xbox One with the day one edition. Before people whined about paying an extra
$100 and how voice commands was reserved for Kinect users once.

Here's the things I've enjoyed from have Kinect for Xbox One.

    1. sign in securely on my console without inputting a pin or password

    2. not being old school by just being a controller user

    3. playing Kinect Sports Rivals (jet boating) and Zoo Tycoon (feeding animals, I believe Frontier is rolling out an Ultimate Edition of Zoo Tycoon for Xbox too)

    4. QR codes to redeem content off XBL without painfully entering in a 25 key code accurately first time round. Just hold the barcode 2m away and the Kinect does it for you

    5. Voice chat, party chat, and sending voice messages to friends

    6. Console video chat and blowing it up on my big screen HDTV.

    7. Voice commands - especially those who hate navigating and pushing extra buttons in the latest UI Update without having to wear a mic.

"If people think Kinect is dead, why is this device sold out??"

There's a delineation between being "sold out" and stores merely clearing their existing stock. In some quarters, it's known as a fire sale, where previously top-end merch is heavily discounted in order to clear the shelves. Kinect is about as dead as my
beloved HD DVD add-on (aka peripheral) that was also "sold out" when it failed to click with buyers. However, retailers are all too familiar with the ritual of spring cleaning... you have to move old stock in order to make room for new stock!

No point in pretending that Kinect was anything other than an experiment that failed. If you're planning to spend big bucks to somehow keep the memory alive, more power to ya, but speaking from painful experience: my beloved HD DVD peripheral has now been
consigned to its official "grave" - the packing carton. #RustInPeaceKinect

    Exactly.

If something doesn't sell then the store will get rid of what stock they have, either by selling it or sending it back to the manufacturer,& not get any more back in stock.

In Kinects case I suspect that's the reason places don't have it in stock.

Kinect was a nice idea but never worked right & wasn't popular.Good riddance I say.

1: I can sign in just with my controller, don't have to put in a pin or anything.

2: Controllers will always have their place

3: Kinect games are pretty much total garbage, yes there is the odd gem like Kinect Sports Rivals, but the vast majority use the Kinect in tiny little ways (like Zoo Tycoon) that after the first few times, just becomes more hassle than enough.

4: Shame very few people used those QR codes, vast majority of codes I've had in games were all 25 code ones.

5: Kinect could be used for party chat, but let me tell you its nowhere near as good as a dedicated headset.

6: Video chat, really? I bought the Xbox for games, not for video chat, but each to their own I suppose.

7: Voice commands sometimes work and sometimes don't, even worse when your playing a game with a bunch of mates all chatting away and all of a sudden your console thinks it hears one of the trigger words and pauses.

I've had more problems with Kinect hearing something that it thinks is a trigger word so many times that Its now sat at the bottom of a cupboard.

Who needs a Kinect with the ability to use a webcam of your choice? Unhooked mine last week. After asking several friends if they were interested, got a "no" from all, took it to G.S.; got like $4 for the Kinect and $13 for the adapter.

It seems to be in stock now. It lets me add one to the cart and go to the checkout stage anyway - and that's in your region (NZ).
