XBox One keeps shutting off during initial update

I have I guess an original XBox One which I barely ever used. Decided to turn it on to update so the kids coming over on Thanksgiving had something to do. The console wouldn’t connect or even find any available wifi networks. Followed all the troubleshooting
steps, yada yada. Long story short I brought it to a Microsoft store and turns out the wifi hardware is somehow shot on the console. $150 to replace seemed stupid considering the 1S is on sale for $200. Decided to buy Powerline, which ended up being about
$100, to turn it into a wired connection. Part of trying to fix the original problem was resetting the XBox, which I did. So the new wired connection seemed to work. Download complete. Verification complete. Now on “Applying update” and the console keeps turning
off. When I turn it on it’s at 81%, gets to 95% and shuts off. I’ve reset the power supply multiple times, plugged it into multiple outlets, unplugged it from the ethernet cable and had it independant from the power strip. Still shuts off. This was never an
issue before. The hours I spent trying to troubleshoot the wifi issue the console never shut off unless I intentioanlly restarted it. The console didn’t lose power or shut off at the Microsoft store. The LED light on the power supply is on and isn’t blinking.
Now what?

Controller keeps shutting off

My controller keeps shutting off automatically during my games. It never did this until we got a second controller and took it out of the package. My initial instinct was that the batteries were dead, but I changed them and it still shuts off! What is
going on??

 

My Xbox one S keeps shutting off during the first update for the console during initial setup

Could it be the same as I had sept 2016 - my X1 was new - that console does not sense downloads as "busy" and not shutting down.

If you can - go into settings - go offline if you need to - and turn off auto shutdown, if default was 30 minutes or 1 hour.

So set to no timeout for inactivity and shutdown.

Just a guess.

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. Thank you for all the troubleshooting you have already performed. The only other thing that comes to mind would be attempting to update the console using a different network.

You may also attempt an
offline update. Although, if you still have issues after all of this, you may want to consider returning the console for a replacement if it was barely purchased.

So the update finished applying after a very frustrating process of sitting in front the console and turning it back on as it continuely shut off, hoping the update would remedy the problem. No such luck. Console continues to shut off. Unfortunatley even
though i barely used it, it’s out of warranty because it basically sat in my room unopened for about the 1st year, year and half.
