Xbox one keeps showing “applying update” every time I reset or turn on console, unable to...

So i have an original xboxone model and havent played it or even had it plugged in since maybe september. I went to boot it up today knowing there would probably be an update. So it appeared to update just fine, but when it went to the home screen, the game/apps
section wouldnt load. There was no error message or anyhting but the circles just kept spinning. Trying to go directly to storage in the setting also wouldnt load. I can see my profile info and go to the xbox store but theres a button prompt to “sign into
xbox live” whoch just takes me to the network setting screen. To clarify too, my internet connection is fine and the xbox services were up and running at the time of trying this. So i hard reset the console thinking it was just a glitch. Well, upon booting
up again, it suddenly goes to the update screen saying that its 33% complete in applying an update. It then does so again and goes to the home screen, and the same errors keep occuring. I tried removing my account but it wont let me add it back, stating “please
try again later” without any specific error code. Every time i try resetting or hard resetting the console (ive tried at least 8 times now), it just keeps loading on the update screen saying its at 33% updating the same update from before. To clarify, its
not freezing here. It looks like its updating fine only to go to the home screen and have the same accesibility and network errors. help!

    :)

This worked! Thank you. It didnt work with the buttons on the console but was able to do so from the menu itself. I got worried at first cauae upon reboot it showed the update screen again, except this time it seemed to break it from its loop

Hey there Blaywulf thanks for taking the time to bring this issue to us.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused but rest assured we are here to help, we have seen this in the past
and since the issue could be on the actual OS of the console so we would suggest a >Soft
    Factory Reset
    <
    (while keeping games and apps)
IF AND ONLY IF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA IS MET:

    • There is a stable network connection.
    • The information for all profiles is known (email and passwords)

If the dashboard cannot be accessed.

    1. Unplug the network cable if you're using a wired network connection.
    2. Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.
    3. Wait 30 seconds.
    4. Plug the power cord back in.
    5. Continue holding the
      BINDand
      EJECTbuttons for 10-15 seconds.
    6. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart.
    7. You can release the
      BINDand
EJECTbuttons after the second power-up tone.
    1. When the troubleshooting screen comes up select Reset this console

NoteIf you don't hear two power-up tones after 15 seconds, it means this failed. Likewise,
if you hear any “power-down” chirps, that also means this failed.

    G'day,

Have you power cycled your router (gateway) and waited till it's fully operational before turning your console back on?

I had the same thing a couple of updates back and discovered that after the restart of the console to apply update, the router had lost it's connection.

It wasn't until I reconnected properly that the update would continue to install.

Let us know how you go
