Xbox One Keeps opening old Groove Music app when streaming to Xbox One

Hi,

When streaming something to Xbox One, it keeps trying to open the old Groove Music app.

When it opens, I get a notification to update and then it installs the new Groove Music app.

Then, when trying to stream from the PC to the Xbox One, you are redirected to the old Groove Music App, which you need to install and ... (loop here)

Somebody else already opened this on the Groove Music PC forum, but was directed here (Xbox One Keeps Installing Groove When Trying to Stream From PC).
I can't find any post on the Xbox Forum yet, so here it is..

Are you using the old Music app or the new Groove app. Microsoft changed from Xbox Music to Groove recently.

 

Xbox stops sending audio to stereo after I turn off TV

If I am playing music from the native XBOX Groove app, the music will keep playing to my stereo even if I turn my TV off.

But not so if I am streaming the music from Apple TV into XBOX HDMI in. Music stops when TV goes off.

try manually uninstalling All or any groove apps that are installed on Your hard drive. Then manually go to The Xbox app store And download the new groove music app. You will want to download the gray one not the blue one. Hopefully this helps. If not you
might want to double Check that your system is fully up to date By going to your system settings, then system info an update.

I've already tried this. This won't help.

To be 100% sure you understand the problem: it's the Play To feature I'm talking about.

I removed alle the groove music apps, rebooted the console and then when I try to stream something from my PC or other device to my Xbox, it immediately opens the app store and shows the Blue app, not the other one. So I think it's somewhere programmed in
the Xbox software that the Play To / DNLA feature of the Xbox opens the wrong Groove Music app.

these steps to stream Video and Music content to your Xbox One console? What other app are you seeing aside from Groove Music exactly?

Your lucky. My windows 10 pc doesn't even show the "Play to" option.

 

Playto no longer works with the new UWP app.

 

I am having the exact same problem as pcid6.

I also uninstalled all grove music apps then reinstalled the green one (not the blue one). In windows 10 when I select cast to device and choose my xbox it launches the store on the xbox and wants me to install the Blue Groove Music App. Even if I install
that (then it asks to update it) it still does not work. Further, every time I do select "cast to device" it launches the store asking for groove music to be installed again.

What happens when you try? Are you seeing any error messages when this happens? Are you using the new Windows Anniversary Update on your Windows 10 PC?

Can you please walk me through step by step what you are doing and how you're seeing this error so we can try to reproduce it? Also what type of file are you trying to cast, does the same thing happen with any type of video or music file you try?

I was the one that posted in the link that the OP provides.

Basically, when you try to 'Cast to Device' from your PC, it will cause the Xbox to open the Store and install the Groove App (which is already installed).

Once you install the App, it prompts you to download an update. Once you do that and try to stream again, it puts you through the exact same process until you give up.

There may be some people out there forever trying to stream constantly stuck in this loop. We need to help them or they may die from starvation!

 

I can confirm it's still an issue.

I've removed almost all of my apps to test (except for my games, which I won't remove because I want to keep the gamedata)

Personally I just think it's a bug and the software of the Xbox just points to (or tries to open) the wrong app.

It seems to me that you are troubleshooting this from textbook.

Can you confirm that you have actually tested this situation with an up-to-date Xbox One and that it works? Last month, I haven't seen anyone (on this forum or another forum) saying that it works.

We need to continue collecting information and troubleshoot in order to narrow this down. We attempted to reproduce the issue with two different Windows 10 PC's and two different Xbox One consoles in different settings and we're unable to get the results
being reported here.

As Mascot said above, definitely be sure to verify that Windows 10 is fully updated by searching 'Check for updates' through the Start menu. Once you've verified that your Windows is up to date, running an
SFC Scan on your PC is the next best step. I recommend hitting that first make sure there are no corrupted files in your Windows install.

Lastly, are any of you a Windows Insider running a preview build? If so, please be sure to report this as well.

Please be sure to post back confirming you have fully updated your PC and have tried the SFC Scan if the issue persists. This issue is definitely an odd one, but we want to make sure to knock it out for you guys.
