Xbox One is starting to seem like a let-down

I agree the Xbox One is not as good as it could be, but it will improve with time and from what I have experienced on the Xbox One I love it.

 

So you liked the new exclusives for the one. They were a little short or repetitive for your tastes....what new playstation exclusives have great depth, graphics and have lots of replay ability at this point? I want to buy a ps4 but they have no exclusives
worth purchasing at this point.

A console is a gaming device built around one system, so my Xbox One is the same as everyone else's. It means the developers can code games to a know hardware spec.

The Steam Box though isn't like that, you can buy different speced Steam Box, you can spend what you want, anything from $500 up to $6000.

So no, in my opinion the steam box isn't a console, it's a gaming PC.

 

I think Steam Box lacks probably the biggest draw to console gaming for me - unified hardware. I already have a decent gaming PC where I can play the endless game of tag of upgrading my hardware just to play the newest games at decent levels. With a (real)
console, I know that even the game that comes out 8 years into the consoles life will look surprisingly good and run just as well for me as it does for the next guy with the same console, whereas on PC if I want to play a multiplayer shooter, the one who has
best performance has a solid advantage.

I guess it's an easy way to hook up a PC of some kind to your TV.. but wouldn't a HDMI cable and a 360 controller be cheaper?

Overall I'm happy with my Xbox One. My issues at the moment are ....

"Dashboarding" .... It's odd, sometimes it doesn't happen for days, then I get 2 or 3 in the space of a few hours. Some games are worse than others but it can be a royal pain especially as it always seems to happen when I'm doing well or at an important point
in a game, then wallop it happens.

"Controller Randomly Disconnecting" .... This is another odd one, can go days without it happening, last time I played on my Xbox it happened in 3 times in the space of 2 hours or so. Tried different controllers, it still happens, the console is not near anything
that could interfere with it. The only way I've solved it is to disconnect Kinect in the settings and then it's fine.

I would have taken my Xbox One back and got it replaced but I've heard about so many others with these issues I don't think another console would solve it. Even when I spoke to Xbox Support on the phone, the guys words were .....
"Microsoft are aware of these issues" ... so I'm confident a fix is incoming. When these issues are addressed no doubt I will be back on my Xbox more.

As for games, just so many great looking titles hitting us in 2014 for both PS4/XB1, exclusives/multiplatform, I personally can't wait

 

Have not paid €60 euro for a subscription in years. The last years subscription I paid €35 for there are plenty of sites that have it cheap. PS4 now has a subscription as well. The steam box there are so many different makes I don't know what to make of
it the controllers looks like a set of DJ decks.

 

I am sooo disapointed with xb1 i only use it 4 utube as i find it more intuative to use than the 360. Sooo £430 just to watch utube i dont think so. I would like microsoft to offer me a FULL refund as i am still useing 360. I do not trust microsoft any more.l
also belive that microsoft will NOT do the right thing by its customers therefore my XB1 WILL be replaced by a SONY PS4 as the asian mind set and ethos will allways be customer satisfaction. Sooo MICROSOFT you can hum the national antham on my SACK you are

You didn't tell us what your problem with the X1 or Microsoft was, though.

 

This probably wont sound very constructive, but a lot of what the OP posted is misinformation and nit picking.

As was pointed out, Destiny beta is also coming to the X1.

A repetitive racing game is really nothing new.

Ryse was short, but doesn't make the game any less fun to play or nice to look at.

Minecraft no longer being exclusive to the Xbox console doesn't mean the X1 isn't all it's cracked up to be. (it's ok for people with other console preferences to enjoy a game, right?)

And finally, adding apps doesn't take away from the console, it adds to it. Back in my day, phones didn't have apps either. But when they were added, people eventually came to accept them and seem that they can no longer live without them.

It's not a console. All the parts are standard PC components, not custom made components, it's not a closed system, there are multiple configurations (because it is a PC, not a console), they are upgradeable, and all Steam Box's are made by several different
third parties.

I can put Steam OS on my PC and put it under my TV. It's still a PC, not a console. The only difference between Steambox and a PC is that it has a different operating system. Nothing more.

Sports games are a genre that's left to the console and designed to be played with controllers so you won't see them in the PC world.

Halo is also a franchise that will always be linked to the console. I can remember when Halo:Combat Evolved came out for the PC and it wasn't even given a second look by most PC FPS players, they had Counter-Strike.

The Sims is available on Steam, probably not very popular considering most PC gamers (especially those on Steam) aren't very fond of EA.

The reason you haven't heard of 80% of the games that are on Steam is because they belong to genres that don't exist on the console. Steam is also getting an influx of indie developer games that are trying to be "different", some hugely successful others not
so much.

I did find it strange that in your second post you named Guilty Gear as a game you've never heard of. it's a side scrolling fighting game that is definitely a genre for consoles and was hugely popular, I don't play that genre and even I knew what it was.
