Xbox one internet connection

Hi, I have a rubbish internet connection, its supposed to be the fastest availible for our area (Australian telephone companies are allowed to lie about and rip people off over internet speeds, if you downgrade pay for the actual slower speed that is availible
and you are getting your connection gets even slower)

but my question is -can you play games on the xbox one without being connected to the internet - do you need to be signed into xbox live all the time, my connection drops all the time .

Note ....not multiplayer games, of course you need a constant fast connection for multiplayer - my question is in relation to playing single player games, I dont really want an xbox one but a couple of new games out that are only on the xbox one, if Mass
effect Androm is going to crash every time I lose my internet connection , no point in buying the console or game.

Also is the xbox one still stupidly geared up for watching tv and not being an actual game console?

Experiencing lag when playing?

What's your internet connection speed? Are other devices connected to the internet aside from Xbox? I guess the problem lies with the internet connection. Do a test at speedtest.net. In case the speed is okay try to see if the other devices are eating up your internet speed by turning them off and focus on Xbox One.
