Xbox One Internal HDD Upgrade Option-Now and Future revisions

    Hi,

After discussing an issue with Xbox phone support when asked if there was anything they could help me with, I added that I wish there was a way to upgrade the internal HDD of the Xbox One via a MS supported/approved methodology.

I have an old PS3 Fat that came with a 60GB drive that I have since replaced with a 1TB drive. I would love to be able to slap in a 2GB capacity drive internal on the Xbox One. I know the console supports external USB drives and I will most likely take
advantage of that but I just like my storage inside the machine. Even with all the new 1TB configuration Xbox One's coming to market, I really do not want to have to rebuy a console if a significant internal storage bump becomes available.

I would love to see an official upgrade path offered by MS for internal storage beyond 1TB. Whether it be a trade in for a new console or something that I could send the console in to MS to be upgraded or taken to an authorized service center, or even do
it myself. Although I have seen videos on sites like ifixit which show tearing an Xbox One down to get to the drive. Does not look fun because obviously it's not officially supported.

The Xbox phone rep said that MS does peruse these forums, so here is to hoping that someone in product development reads this and that if an Xbox One rev 2 is in the works, end user replaceable internal storage is on the drawing board.

    Thank you.

    :)

  2. Hard Drive

I agree that they should have had a 1 TB drive as standard, with option to upgrade it.

500gb is abit small for that size of the games.

What they should have done, was to have a slot in drive on the side, so you could upgrade the internal HDD easilly if you wanted too without voiding warranty.

But there will be a patch in the future to add external HDD through the USB 3 port, so it's only a problem until then.

Pros and Cons to waiting for updated Xbox One

Considering the size of game installs the internal 500 GB HDD in the Xbox One is seeming smaller and smaller. Tacitly confirmed by Phil Spencer on the recent Podcast Unlocked episode, Xbox One will be getting a HDD upgrade to most likely 1 TB sometime next
year. Should those who don't have the console now wait for the new box or splurge and get one this holiday season?

  5. Being able to replace the internal HDD with say a 4TB HDD (3.5 with 2.5 plug and play adapter even) would be cool and I think it's coming by way of a Slim model as currently, there is simply no way of doing it without voiding your warranty. Unless of course
MS changes their policy on it.

    Just one thing though.

If/When a Slim X1 comes out with users being able to finally upgrade their internal HDD. MS should not require users to buy, at extra cost. An Officially Licenced MS drive.

See, here is something that the original poster didn't think about |(and neither does anyone that says they want to upgrade the internal hard drive)

With the current setup, you can plug in a 2TB hard drive and have a total storage space of 2.5TB.

With the option of updating the internal hard drive, you can take out the 500GB hard drive and upgrade it too a 2TB drive, but that leaves you with a 2TB console, not the 2.5TB with the current setup.
