Xbox One Internal Hard Drive intermittently freezes / stutters

Hey there,

So I have had a recurring problem since I first bought my Xbox One at the end of 2014, however due to the fact is occurs so intermittently and randomly, I am unable to prove fault to the retailer. Also, I am not 100% certain I know where the problem lies,
but I believe it is to do with the hard drive inside the xbox or something to do with the connection between xbox and HD.

Here is the long and short of it:

Every now and again during gameplay, the xbox one visual display will freeze up (I have only ever experienced this during gameplay e.g. titanfall, pool nation FX so cannot comment if other video playback is affected) and the audio will stutter and loop the
same quarter-second of audio that was playing at the moment of freezing. The best description I can think of is that it's like getting Microsoft Sam to do the sprinkler noise lol.

Controller buttons when the AV is frozen are, for the most part, useless. However, when pressing / holding the guide button I can get the xbox menu to work (e.g. 'shut down console' when holding guide button) like normal.

Also, the games I have mentioned up there were playing from the hard drive (titanfall and pool nation), which is what makes me lean towards hard drive problem rather than console issue. There is no consistency to freezing re: duration of play time, visual
'intensity' of game (I'd be surprised if pool nation fx was stressing the xbox hardware).

What do I do when this problem occurs? Turn it off and on again. It doesn't seem to have any lasting effects (fingers crossed) by the time it has turned back on but it does keep happening, and not being able to work out the exact reason why and/or fix the
problem is a major pain the butt. It's almost felt like it's been faulty since day one, but once again the randomness of it happening is impossible to prove (It could freeze up in five minutes or five hours, sigh)

Anyway I was hoping for a bit of assistance / knowledge, I was surprised to google this issue to find nothing comparable near the top results, so it may just be my bad luck. Responses appreciated, thanks for reading.

Stuttering video using Hauppauge TV tuner on XBOX Once

It's happened with me ever since the 'New Xbox Experience' on the Hauppauge tuner. Stutters constantly on FOX and intermittently on PBS in the KC area. Drives me crazy; I can't watch it.

5.1 surround also hasn't worked since the update.

Sounds like the problem might be with the portable hard drive. What happens if you disconnect the portable drive and run the games off the internal hard drive? Notice any changes?

The issue you're describing doesn't sound like a harddrive issue, especially if it's at random with all games. The first thing that comes to mind would be ventilation issues, is your Xbox One in an open and well ventilated area? If it's not getting sufficient
airflow it may cause hiccups like the one you're describing. Also, do you have an external storage device to test installed games with? That would help narrow this down to see if it's indeed an internal storage issue.
