Xbox One incomplete in changing channels

My TV is always tuned through my Xbox One, using it to control the cable box/watch TV when needed. Often, when changing channels, it does an incomplete change - for example, changing to 828, it only goes to 82. Or 28.

Is everything controled via IR? I have the Kinect, and used a phone camera to pick up the IR on the Kinect going off when it is sending a command. However, as everything was connected with HDMI, and I've experienced the HDMI connections acting as a controlling
connection (i.e. in an old configuration, turn on the blu-ray player, the TV changes to that input), so I assumed that is what was going on. However, I'm in a new place, and the "mistakes" seem much more frequent.

So, do I need to look at changing my set up, or adding an IR blaster or the like? Since the transmitter, the Kinect, and the Xbox One and cable box and stereo are all facing the same direction, if it is IR control, that seems a bad set-up as it would rely
on reflections. Any thoughts/advice/insight?

TV Streaming

What is the difference between the "Watch on Xbox One" and "Stream Channel" options in the OneGuide?.

I have Freeview going into my Xbox One. These options are shown when checking the TV Listings on the Xbox app on my PC with Windows 10. Both options seem to do the same, changing the channel on my TV and on my PC to the same channel. Thought the point
of having a stream option was to stream an individual channel to my Windows 10 device without necessarily changing or showing the same channel on my TV.

You are right, this is controlled by the IR blasts sended by the kinect and not by the hdmi connection at all. Usually the IR signals are reflected back by the wall behind you .In your case it really sounds like the reflection of the IR blast provided by
the kinect may be to weak to be fully received by your cable box.

As you has spoken of moving into a new place, is the wall behind you now more away from the TV and cable box then before? Is it maybe covered with furniture or some dark colours?

To sort out that the kinect maybe faulty, is it possible that you place the kinect directly in front of your cable box and have it facing at it to check if at least that works correct? If even that fails, the kinect maybe fault.

1) What's the make, model, and provider of your cable box?

2) Has this always been happening, or started recently?

3) Have you tried going into TV & OneGuide settings -> Device control -> Cable/sat box and changing the channel change speed?

 

Thank you for your replies. I'm trying it out with the slower setting, seems better. I'm in a city apartment, new walls, new cable box. And the unit isn't square with the back wall, which might be part of the problem... set up in a corner. We'll give the
new setting some time and see if it really does keep working.
