Xbox One in Standby kills DHCP server after a few days.

    Hi,

I have found an issue with the Xbox one on a Wired connection connected to a Draytek 2850n router. If I leave the Xbox One with power on but in standby within 3 days the DHCP is broken on the router and my PC can not connect to the internet and I have to
    reboot the router.

I have now had my Xbox one completely switched off and not in use for over a week and not had a single issue with the DHCP server on the router.

Is there a way on the Xbox to have it in standby and reduce its chatting to the Microsoft servers to check for updates as aggressive as it is trying.

NOTE - If I'm using the Xbox one then I don't seem to have the issue at all, but have to remember to power down the Xbox after use.

Anyone else having strange network issues.

    :)

    Xbox One unreliable with 5ghz?

FWIW, I have noticed the same problem (Xbox One unable to contact DHCP Server and obtain an IP on 5ghz), but it finally works after a few tries. Thing is, when it doesn't work, the Xbox One isn't really even trying to get a DHCP IP as far as I can tell
from my router logs (haven't tried sniffing packets yet). There are definitely some bugs in the Xbox One networking code.

    Lost connection to live tv

Same problem here talking to the Tv. It worked perfectly for the first few days even after going into standby. Now it won't recognise the tv. "Xbox on" turns on the tv but none of the peripherals.

    Hi there,

I've had this issue before, not with the Xbox One, but for some reason an old Android tablet I had would do a very similar thing after using it for an hour. A few months later the router completely died, so it could be a sign that your router is on its way
    out.

Other than that though, have you tried assigning specific IP addresses to all of your devices to see if that helps?

My XBOX One stays in standby all the time and I have never had the problem that you describe. I use a Netgear r7000 Router and I keep the firmware updated. Is your router running the latest firmware?

I have the latest version of firmware on the router.

I have also reset to factory settings and setup the router again.

I have also assigned static IP addresses for a number of devices by mac code including the Xbox one.

Router has been stable before the Xbox One purchase and has been stable since only switching on the mains supply to the Xbox when I intend to use it.

Not sure if this will offer any insight to your issue but it appears the console does do some 'interesting' things regarding DHCP while in standby mode. Take a look at this thread. forums.xbox.com/.../2101099.aspx

Xbox One in Standby kills DHCP server after a few days.

Thanks for the post Genesis1953 not sure what I can do apart from keep the thing switched off.

Hopefully Microsoft read these forums and look into the constant requesting of IP addresses when switched off.

I will have a play with some settings in the Xbox and router to see if I can do something to improve the stability.

    Hi Cra2y80y,

Unfortunately the Xbox cannot "break" a router. It just doesn't work like that. So unfortunately there isn't anything in the Xbox to fix based on your description. Now what can happen is the Xbox requests X ports, and when that happens the router in one
form or another malfunctions and then stops working. I'm not sure exactly how the DHCP requests are handled from the Xbox, but since it's built off Windows 10 I would assume it's the same. Log files or wireshark would be the only ways to tell. If it's just
DHCP I would consider using a static IP address, but first and foremost I'd recommend contacting your ISP or router manufacturer to see if there are firmware updates or replacement options.

    Hope this helps.

^^ I agree. It definitely sounds like the router is not performing optimally. It may be that the xbox's performance is such that it causes the router to not be able to function thus causing the router to error out. It doesn't appear to be a widespread
issue or the forums would be melting down.
