xbox One hot in standby mode

Hi,

I am wondering what is going wrong, sometime, with my xbox one.

In general, I let it in standby mode, and, most of the time, I think, things are working as expected.

But, I found at multiple time my console in a "strange" state:

- two times, I have felt a fresh air flow around the xbox, when it was supposed to do nothing. I powered it, and nothing was underway (no update...), I just switch it back off.

- two times also, the top of the box was really hot, with fan off, when she was in standby mode. Here again, nothing was done by the xbox at that time, and if she was, the fan should have been on. The console was warmer than when I am really playing on it.

So, I am really wondering why this is happening, and I fear this can create some damage to the system, since the temperature is quite high.

In addition, if this is hot, that means it is using some power, so, not really good either fot the planet, but also for my money...

For now, I will switch it off all the time, I disabled the standby mode, but this is still quite strange anyway.

I have no Kinect, and the system is up to date.

Power Off

Firstly unless you are planning to not use it for a long period of time, unplugging and plugging it back in is not a good idea for any device. Secondly from my experience the XBOX ONE doesn't get hot, it gets slightly warm. but never hot where I think it
may over heat. The XBOX 360 got much, much hotter. The XBOX goes to standby mode meaning you can say "XBOX ON" (if you have the Kinect with it). There is a setting where you can turn it completely off (located in power settings). But I suggest leaving it as
it is because I am 95% sure it can run updates while in standby mode.

And there are no stupid questions in my book.

There may still be updates downloading in the background, even if you don't see any when you turn it on. Do you have anything plugged in to your console when this is happening (controller, external hard drive, etc)? Once never had this happen to mine, but
it sounds like you may need a repair

 

When the console is hot without any air flow, I don"t think this can be due to background updates ongoing, the fan should be running, I guess.

Else, I have nothing plug on the xbox except a sat receiver on the hdmi in... could it be due to it ?

I have the one since january, and I only discover the issue quite recently, and, my canal+ LeCube decoder was not plug in at the beginning... maybe I should turn it off and see if this is happening again. But, since the problem seems not happening always,
this is not easy to test.

 

I'm not sure if that would cause it or not, but I have noticed that when I leave my controller plugged in the system doesn't completely shut down sometimes while it is charging
