Xbox One hot even when off, recording temp above fan at 100 F.

I wanted to know if the temperature my xbox is at is normal. The console is turned off and plugged in and Xbox and the power brick are well ventilated. The power brick does not seem unusually hot. The Xbox is on the mode where you can install updates while
    it's off and start fast.

I used a temperature probe my step-father uses on air conditioning units to test their output temperature and placed it in the middle of the vented area on the top of the Xbox, where it is hottest. The average temperature for the last hour and a half has
been about 99 degrees F. I have been recording the temperature every 10-15 minutes and the hottest it hot was 107.6 while the fan kicked in briefly.

I have only been recording the temperature today, but my xbox running hot while off is constant. Is this normal?

    :)

the fan seem to be comming on at random times. some days its not on at all. and others it goes on and off rather often. dosen't seem to be related to what i do.

    Overheating

When I clean my console I take the vents off the bottom where the hard drive is at.

Spray it out with canned air, make sure the canned air is at room temp and you hold the can upright, it helps putting it at the edge of a table so it doesn't cause the moist air.

Clean out the fan and clean out the dust this way, clean both sides. Clean it from the end and clean it from the fan, giving it small sprays.

In the Low 70's the console shouldn't be heating up at all. If this continues then it may need a professional cleaning from a licensed Microsoft Store or even be sent in for cleaning. Though most of the cleaning could be done at home with a can of air, don't
use an air compressor either because the pressure will destroy the consoles fan.

The Slim fan blows at different speeds, it all counts on how hot it is, slow is when the Console is running at a normal temp while fast is when it gets hot usually after an hour or two of gaming.

Hi, the Instant on power mode doesn't actually shut the Xbox down fully, it goes into a sort of sleep mode, the fan will keep spinning and the heat generated will be higher than that if you set the Xbox to Energy saving mode. Ambient temperatures will have
a degree of effect on the Xbox temperature during this sleep mode of course but it's worth just checking all the vents on the sides etc of the Xbox are free of dust/fluff.

As for the temperatures you are recording they may seem a little high but not overly so when using Instant on power mode.

This ink shows the differences between the available power modes.

  5. When turned on, the Xbox is usually running fairly warm. Roughly 40C (~105F?) is pretty normal and still somewhat cool. On a gaming computer (for comparison), 35-40C can be normal idle temps for powerful hardware with standard air cooling.

The Xbox will give off warm air in normal operation, and likely still does especially when you have a game suspended in the background or maybe downloading and installing an update. The concern for generated heat should only be a worry if the fan is kicking
into constant high gear and the Xbox is SCORCHING hot.

You have it well ventilated (as you say), hopefully it's mounted horizontally (as it was designed; it's not meant for standing vertically), and your temps are seemingly normal -- there should be nothing to worry about. Like the last guy said, it also helps
to clean the dust off the Xbox once in a while. Dust obstructs airflow, leading to heat buildup. Also make sure the console is not in direct sunlight or near other heat sources.

    Is 95 degreees F (35c) to hot for a series S

There is no ability of an external fan to provide temps on the die package, which is the important number

The fact that the Xbox is exhausting hot air means it's working properly

Cooling fan doesn't work in sync with temperature

The Xbox One X has a thermal sensor that tells the fan when it gets too hot.

For an entertainment device that is also used as a media player, it's important for the console to be as silent as possible. So even when you "feel" the console gets "very hot", it is not "too hot".

Should the fan fail, and the console gets too hot, you will get an error message on screen, that the console has to shut down because it ran too hot.

So unless you get an error message about the console being too hot, rest assured that the temperature of the console is perfectly fine, even if it feels warmer to touch.
