Xbox one home button not working

My home button isn't working, if I'm in a game I cannot go to the home page with it. Also when I'm trying to send a friend a message or trying to rename a class(bo3) it lime freezes and dosent allow me to do anything. I've literally had this for a day.

I've gotten a new Xbox One with the manufactured controller for just a little over a month. I can hold the Xbox button and turn my Xbox on, but when I tap the button during a game to take me to home screen, or double tap for the profile, party, and snap
menues, etc, nothing happens. it's like the action for the button is not being read by the Xbox One. I've never in countered a problem such as this ever. The only way to get back to my home screen is to either restart my Xbox or eject the disc, but that won't
work if it's a downloaded game. Any answers or help?

 

Sounds like something is stuck in there blocking it, although the freezing shouldn't be happening because of it. I'd contact MS and ask them to test your Xbox to see if everything okay with the console. If it is, then I'd take the controller to a MS store
if you have one by you.

If not you can take the shell off and see if something stuck behind the home button, clean it and put the shell back on. There are plenty of YouTube vids. for this.

If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then you probably need to buy a new controller from Wal-mart / Best Buy, and make sure you get a warranty on them. From my experience the controller is almost always the first thing to go and I've gone through 3
already this generation between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (2 on Xbox, 1 on PS).

If you get the Wal-Mart warranty they replace it no questions asked and it last for 2 years, which was just in time for me.

 

First, try doing a hard reset on the console. Hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power shuts off completely. Unplug the power from the back of the console for 5 minutes then plug it back up and power on the xbox. Make sure

I have this exact problem. Tried resetting the x box multiple times, same problem even with the new controller I got. I can. Turn on the Xbox by pressing the home button on my controller, however won't work in any game or app. Also freezes when trying to
send a message or rename anything.

Did this occured after an update? If Genesis1953's suggestion did not work, and you have tried another controller but still got the same result, you can try to perform the restore to factory default option. But keep in mind that you may need to redownload
everything if you consider this process.

I have the same problem and the hard reboot was a temporary fix. I'm in the preview program and it started for me in April. After the hard reset I called MS and got the run around. I switched plugs and everything you can imagine. The last option was a repair,
but since I was out of warranty it would cost about $137. I did a bit of digging and found a sale with trade-in for my old console for a bundle and just paid $183 for a year warranty, Quantum Break and the console. Guess What? The error is still happening.
So now what?

 

Vigita I have the same exact problem. I'm so glad that I'm not the only person in the world with this problem. Hard resets only fix the problem temporarily. I even factory reset my console TWICE and I still have the same problem!

 

Vigita and Xuoi, may I ask if it locks up your system completely? Because mine has been doing this whenever I do anything more than move around the dashboard. Usually after I try to go to social or store or anything that isn't just letting sit there really.
