  1. Xbox One High Latency When Connected to a Router

When I connect to a router with a wired connection I receive really high latency. A direct connection to a modem reduces the latency to 96ms, the latency I'm trying to get when it's wired up to the router. I bought a new router to see if it fixes the problem,
    which it didn't.

    Before any latency problem:

    Wireless Connection to Router

    • Download: 17mbps
    • Upload: 1mbps
    • Packet Loss: 0%
    • MTU: 1480
    • Latency: 96ms
    • Wireless Strength: 80%
    After the problem occurred:

    Wired Connection to Router

    • Download: 17mbps
    • Upload: 1mbps
    • Packet Loss: 0%
    • MTU: 1480
    • Latency: 196ms
I don't know why this occurred, I have tried adding ports, turning off QoS, turning off UPnP, tried turning on IPv6. I haven't touched any of the router settings before the problem occurred. My ISP came over to check on things, they gave me a new modem,
when that didn't fix the problem they gave me a modem/router combo unit, that also didn't fix the problem. My friend with an Xbox One, same router as mine, same ISP as mine got a latency of 99ms on wireless. I brought my Xbox to a family member's house, my
problem was gone, with a latency of 110ms wireless. For some reason any Xbox One that tried to connect to any router in my house would receive high latency.

    Condition of Equipment

    • Xbox One: Brand New
    • Modem: Brand New
    • Router: Brand New
I bought new equipment to see if it fixed the problem, it didn't. I was lucky to be able to return those items because there was no improvement with new equipment.

The problem, as far as I know centers around the NAT.

Direct to modem connection alleviates the problem.

I have also tried testing network connection and testing multiplayer connection, didn't fix the problem.

I have contacted Xbox Support, ISP support, and router manufacturing support. All of them giving really novice advice that I already knew.

If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to tell me. Thanks.

    :)

  2. Weird Latency Issue with Great Equipment

    PROBLEM:

I have Motorola MB8600 modem and a Netgear R6900 modem, both brand new with xfinity service. It's weird, my computer, which is connected wirelessly to the router only has a 13-15ms latency tested on speedtest.net; but my xbox360, connected by a short CAT6
is showing a consistent 88-93ms latency when tested on the xbox itself. This latency is too high for me, and I do notice it in-game.

    TROUBLESHOOTING:

    - I upgraded the router firmware. No change in latency.

    - I gave the XBOX it's own IP through the router and set up a DMZ. No change in latency.

    - To see if the router is the issue, I tried plugging the xbox directly into the modem and powercycling, but xbox cannot connect to internet that way unless I'm doing something wrong. I do know that Comcast partitioned the modem, so perhaps that's why I
can't connect xbox directly to it?

    - I tried changing the router port the xbox is connected to (and powercycling). No change in latency.

    - I tried connecting the xbox wirelessly to the router, and as expected latency went UP.

At this point, I'm baffled. I don't know whether the issue is the modem, the router, or the xbox360 servers. Why is latency higher on my hard-wired XBOX than on my wirelessly connected laptop? Thanks for your help.

    latency

I have the same high latency here, im from the UK and have a wired connection to my modem, no router,

    my NAT is open,

    124 mbps download - 0% packet loss

    13 mbps upload - 0% packet loss

    latency 155 - 185 ms,

With this high latency its no fun playing games online or trying to compete in such games as Battlefield 4 or Call of Duty: Ghosts when U.S players have better pings then E.U players, seeing that Xbox One servers are only in the U.S,

I hope there are plans for some E.U Xbox One servers to cut down the high latency.

I have a similar issue for some reason my connection on my Xbox One doesn't match my connection speeds when I test them on my laptop going from 35mbps to 13mbps and it's definitely something with the Xbox because I tested a second xbox one my brother has
which is further away from the modem and has a 33mbps download speed.

  6. well, it seems like your xbox is either too close to the modem or the console is defective. Use a wired connection, that should fix your problem. And my problem has to do with a connection to a router which causes a very high latency, before anyone asks
where I am from in the world. I am pinging the seattle server from Florida. With speedtest.net I got a latency of 114ms testing the Seattle server.

Xbox One High Latency When Connected to a Router

Saved Patriot, I need to clarify some things. So tell me, right now Wireless and Wired connection have the same high latency when You connect Your Xbox One to router? What type of packet transporting thru router You use, Bridge or Routing?

  9. Yes, wired and wireless connection have the same latency when using routing. When in bridge mode (virtually just a modem at that point) the latency is at 100ms, the perfect speed.

  10. Who is your ISP? This is happening to me. Its a Comcast issue for me. Something with the Xbox One and Comcast static IP. And it only happens to my Xbox one, nothing else. Sometimes it is fine and other times it either has a packet loss or latency.

What kind of router are you using?

  11. BrightHouse Networks, I am using a Netgear router, but I tried using an Arris dual band and also a new routerr to fix the problem it didn't work

Saved Patriot, so, why just not to use Bridge Mode? If You like to troubleshoot Your router, set logs level to debug.

Saved Patriot, Your family can uses Wi-Fi in L2/Bridging mode as always, like in L3/Routing mode.

What difference between L2 and L3 Mode for Your router. All simple, at L2/Bridging mode Your router just send packets from Ethernet or Wi-Fi port to WAN port without touching them, so this operation is very cheap and fast.

In L3/Routing mode, Your router strips L2 headers in packets and then add new headers and if You uses NAT, even change SRC IP in packet, so this operation can't be cheap and fast as for L2/Bridging mode.

If You like I can try to explain more precisely what happens in this modes.

So, the only situation when You need to uses L3/Routing mode is if Your modem can't do NAT and it don't have DHCP server.

  15. I gave up, this problem is directly tied to my neighborhood. My Xbox One console performs great on any other wifi network. There is construction nearby, they are messing around with the electricity, plumbing, and cabling. So hopefully when they are done
this problem will be fixed, because this problem fixed itself on its own. In my case, I need to use routing mode because my modem cannot perform NAT or be used as a DHCP server. I'm not using a dual band modem/router anymore because it cost extra on my bill.
Now it is in bridged mode connected to a separate router. Before you ask if that fixed my problem, no it didn't. But thanks for your continuous effort to help me with my problem.
