Xbox one headset playing its own mic through ear speaker

Turned on my xbox today to play some destiny, plugged in the stock headset and hear the background of my room through the headset, thought it was weird, unplugged headset blew out the connectors and plugged back in. Still doing the same thing, decide to
restart the controller and still having the same issue. Restart my Xbox One, no luck.

Anyone else having/had this issue? searched around for awhile and found nothing.

Xbox One Headset

I recently bought a really basic headset, one with a single speaker for one ear and a mic. The problem is, I can't understand a single word anyone says because it plays the game audio through the headset and it's so loud over people's voices! Is there anyhow
to make the game audio only go through my TV, and chat only through my headset?

gaming headset mic not working with xbox one S

Hi. Thanks for responding. The headset which worked for the first 5 months was a BUTFULAKE Gaming Headset SL-300.
You can hear through the headset but the mic stopped working (can still hear though). We then purchased a Turtle Beach Ear Force XO Three headset; can hear through the headset but mic doesn't. Don't know if this is true but son says when moving/tampering with
the mic others can hear the noise that creates but when my son speaks into the mic others cannot hear him.

my xbox? I did an update 1-2 days ago but it was a forced, didn't know you could decide when to update

No, the controller. If you go to Settings then System there is an option to update the controller on the left of the screen. You need to connect your controller to a USB socket on your console and follow the instructions. This update enables the headset
adaptor to work properly.

I am assuming that you have both game and party chat Coming through the headset and not TV speakers. Some mics even on a boom are extremely sensitive and will pick up even sound from the headset. If your mic is flexible, try to bend it further away from
the ear pieces.

Which headset are you using?

sometimes theres an issue with the connection between speaker and mic in the headset itself, like its too sensitive, or the ear muffs arent strong enough to muffle the speaker volume. If others are hearing an echo but you're not, the headset volume may
be turned up a notch too high. Or, if your mic came with a boom cover (little foam bit on the end of a microphone), be sure to use it. Won't fix the sound completely, if the issue is poor noise suppression in the headphones, but can help muffle it.
