Having trouble with my headsets. Bought one new and other was from a friend. Neither one seems to be working as I cannot hear anything. I've checked the volume and mute buttons on the headset with no results. Is there a voice mute in the Xbox guide that
I have to check? and if so, where do i find that? I've looked in setting and cannot find anything resembling a voice or sound mute.

Add "mute" to the Elite Controller button mapping

I'd like to see that option, I have a good headset, but keep the headset adapter on the controller just so I don't have to take my hand off the controller for muting.

+1 for mapping mute to a button.

    Hey Matthew,

Thank you for reaching out, we'll try our best to get you talking with your friends again! If you haven't already, we suggest you try

    power cycling
the console by doing the following:

    1. Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.
    2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.
Important Be sure to wait 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.
    3. Plug the console power cable back in.
    4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn on the Xbox One

    Hi Matthew,

Thanks for replying to keep us updated. Since the physical power cycle didn't work, you may wish to check the Audio settings on your console while the headset is plugged into the controller. To do this, press the Xbox button on the controller to bring up
the OneGuide, then scroll right to the icon of the gear. Once you highlight the gear, scroll down to Audio Settings. It should show you the mic options and allow you to toggle the mic on/off.

If you would prefer to speak to someone more directly, you can always request a callback from Xbox Support.
The best way to reach Live Support would be here: https://support.xbox.com/contact-us#0

It's going to ask if you want help from the virtual agent select
no thanks, pick the category(Games)and just pick a contact method
(request a call from support or Chat is faster).

I hope this helps a bit more.

    Muted

    Hi Wayne!

Thanks for reaching out to us with this issue. Since you've tested out the headset on other devices and it appears to be functional, then you may wish to try out the headset on a different controller if you haven't already. Whenever the headset is plugged
into a controller, you should see a headset symbol where you are seeing a muted mic symbol. You'll definitely want to check the OneGuide by pressing the Xbox button on your controller while the headset is plugged in, then scroll to the right of the guide to
the Gear symbol for settings, then choose Audio settings and ensure that the mute is not engaged.

If mute is not engaged on the Audio settings, then double check that the mic is not muted on the headset itself (assuming your headset has an audio switch). Should it not be muted. either via the console or the headset itself, then you'll want to ensure
that this is not true on a different controller. Reason being is that it is possibly the headset jack itself that isn't recognizing headset and causing the muted mic symbol. I'm listing out some helpful articles below that contain troubleshooting steps that
you can take to determine what may be happening:

Give these a try and let us know the results!

I hope that this helps out!
