Xbox one headset: Can hear sound but can not talk (microphone does not work - multiple ...

    Hello,

I have a Microsoft over the ears headset that was working just fine for almost a year. The other day I logged on and I could hear out of the headset but I could not talk to anyone through either party or game chat. I tried using my original Xbox mic that
came with my Xbox, it is just a mic with no game volume and it works, I can chat with it.

... So I began searching online and followed the forums I found, I tried to switch every setting on/off and restarted my Xbox. The 'mic' switch in my audio settings is ON. My privacy settings are all on 'ALLOW EVERYONE' no child locks are on my account or
    bans.

I went out and purchased a new headset from GameStop, a HyperX headset for both game volume and chat. After restarting my Xbox and hard resetting it I am having the same issue with the new headset. I can hear the game and the chat but no one can hear me,
the microphone icon isn't lighting up in game chat or in party chat. I tried both headsets, the new and old one, on another controller and it is still not working. I eventually decided to try them both on my brother's Xbox and they are still not working. I
am having the same issue on both Xboxes; Game volume and party volume work, but the microphone does not.

    In conclusion,

I have three headsets, two over the head ones and one original headset.

    - The volume works on both over the headsets but not the microphone.

-I have tried it on multiple controllers and on two different systems and am having the same issues.

    - The original Xbox headset's microphone works, but obviously without any game volume.

    - I reset all Audio and Privacy settings.

    :)

Not able to talk through Microphone

I recently purchased an Xbox one and a turtle beach earforce xo one headset. I tried talking through the microphone, but no one is able to hear me. I can hear the game sound and the people talking. The buttons work for the headset and the headset has been
    updated. I have tried:

    1. Signing out of my console
    2. Disabling auto sign in, then signed back in
    3. Turning off the console
    4. Placing the console in power saver mode then turning it off. Then back on.
    5. Disconnecting the microphone from the controller
    6. Turing the controller off, then plugging in the headset
    7. Updating the controller
The microphone in the box works, but I want to be able to hear the game and people talking at the same. Any help would be appreciated.

Unable to use my headset for game/party chat

    Hello All,

I'm attempting to use my Turtle Beach X4's on my Xbox One with a new talk back cable, but for some reason the headset does not pick up chat audio and the mic does not work. I can hear game sound just fine, and I know the mic/headset works because when I
check for controller updates I can briefly hear my mic through my headphones until it finishes searching for an update. This leads me to believe it is a system/controller issue rather than a headset issue. I've also tried multiple controllers. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Xbox one headset: Can hear sound but can not talk (microphone does not work - multiple ...

    Hi RU Gmen13!

Thanks for reaching out to us. It sounds as if you're issue is solely with the mic on your headset. The good news is that the headset is being recognized by your console, so the focus is going to be on the mic itself. While your headset is plugged in to
the controller, you stated that you went to the audio settings and made sure that the mic was "ON" but the mic icon didn't light up. It also appears that you have done a lot of

    troubleshooting on the headsets
which is also good and it doesn't appear that your controller is the culprit.

You may wish to try the Skype test to see if you get different results.

    1. Sign in to your account.
    2. Select the Skype app.
    3. Select People, and then select the Skype Test Call
      contact.
    4. Select Voice call. Skype will try to connect your voice call.
    5. The call will ask you to speak into the mic and will repeat what was heard.
Beyond that, it is possible, since your original headset previously worked, that the wires to the mic itself may have become damaged over time or have lost connection, rendering the mic unable to pick up sound. As for the HyperX headphones, you may want
to try them out with an Xbox headset adapter as there are different types of headphone jacks that can cause the type of issue you are experiencing to see if you get a different result.

I hope that this helps out and please let us know the results.

Microphone doesn’t work on Xbox One S

Sound settings are set to stereo uncompressed. Connecting via the built in 3.5mm jack does indeed invoke the audio options in the menu tab. Still no change otherwise.

Two of the headsets allow me to hear some sounds from the microphone through the earpieces, confirming that the microphones work but sound is not being transferred to the console. Feedback/hissing can be heard if the controller is connected via USB.

    Headset not working

Can you check that the headset is working "locally" by opening up Messages on the console, and trying to compose a message to a friend (you don't send the message, so it doesn't matter who you try to message).

Instead of typing the message, press the microphone button, and try to speak into your headset microphone.

Does the microphone pick up your voice? Can you listen to your voice when you listen to your own message?

When you say the console isn't recognizing any of them: Does the console at least play sound via the headphones? Or are they not detected at all?

Can you check in the Xbox Accessories app, that your controller has the most up-to-date firmware?

Also, check if the headsets work on a smartphone. Be aware, that on Apple smartphones, the ground pin and microphone pin are reversed. So if you can hear sound from your headset, but the microphone isn't working, go to any phone shop (or online) and look
for an OMTP to CTIA adapter. These adapters simply cross two wires, so if you are asked to pay more for that cable than a coffee-to-go, you're being ripped off.

    disable microphone on x box

    Hey, JuryChalice3007!

From my understanding, you would like to turn off your microphone on either a Kinect device or a headset connected to your Xbox console. I may need some more information to be as helpful as possible. For starters, I need to know if this is an Xbox 360 or
an Xbox One. I will also need to know if it is on a Kinect device or a headset, and if it is a headset then I will need to know which one. Regardless, here is what I can offer you based on the information I do have.

To turn off the Kinect microphone on the Xbox One, it is as simple as going to your settings and selecting Kinect. From there you will see the option to deselect the 'Kinect microphone for chat' option. Voice commands will still work, but no one will hear
    you in party or in-game.

There are multiple microphones that work with the Xbox One and as such, there may be multiple ways to disable it. I will link a guide to Chat headset below.
