Xbox One Headset Adapter not working

Hello. Thank you for helping me.

I bought a brand new xbox one stero headset today. It came with the adapter.

I plugged the adapter/headset to my Elite controller and turned the xbox on. The headset worked (I could hear sound, mute it, change volume, etc.). Almost immediately, a popup announced I needed to update my controller. I connected the elite controller via
USB and it prompted me to remove the batteries. I did so (with it plugged in...it wouldn't let me turn the controller off first). It then searched for updates and said there were none. I was placed back on the home screen.

But the headset no longer worked. No sound came out and the adapter was permanently muted. Pressing the buttons also did not make any sound.

So here's what I've done to fix it:

1. I updated the controller manually by going through settings. It did give me an update this time.
   
2. I tested the headset itself. If I plug it directly into the controller, it works. I also tested another headset, which also worked.
   
3. The xbox headset also worked when plugged into my phone.
4. I tested the adapter in another controller. It did not work. Before I did this, I updated the controller.
   
5. I tested the headset that originally came with the console in each controller. It worked on both.
   

I can't find any other options to fix it on the troubleshooting. Can anyone help?

xb360 headsets will work on xbox one.

their will be an adapter its unclear if it will be extra or packaged with the xb1 as the article reads.

 

My adapter for my headset is not working

Have you tried updating your Headset Adapter ? To do so, look at this :
support.xbox.com/.../update-controller-for-stereo-headset-adapter.

When you say it's not working, you mean that you can't hear anything ? Have your tried your headset with another device ?
