Xbox One Headset Adapter does not work for game chat

Hello,

It is a strange issue, which I think is caused by software bug. I have Xbox Elite Controller and Xbox Headset Adapter attached. I use Sennheiser Momentum headset. Repro:

1. Connect headset to controller via headset adapter

2. Start party chat, talk to Cortana - everything works fine

3. Start The Division and try game chat - I can hear everything. But mic is not working.

4. Remove headset adapter

5. Connect directly to controller

6. Party chat and game chat, both work fine

Expected behavior: game chat should work using headset adapter the same way when connecting via headset adapter.

Have somebody experienced the same issue?

setting up Razer chimaera 5.1 headset on Xbox One

Hi!

I have stereo headset from Razer company, model chimaera 5.1. This is wireless headset for Xbox360.

After bying Xbox One, and bying microsoft headset adapter (official) for xbox one, this headset start working with chat. But buttons on headset adapter not work correctly. Not matter what i'm doing, changing volume of chat or game, in my headset changes
all volume. If dont use this buttons, game sounds are so loud that i cant hear chat(((

And buttons on headset dont work correctly (there are butons on headset for
regulation chat and game volumes). There is the same thing. Like sound getting in with one stream.

Is there any opportunity to make the headphones work properly with Xbox One?

Chat through a HI-FI headphone??

As far as I've been able to tell, chat does not work for most 3rd party headsets when using the adapter. The adapter that was, of course, supposed to enable chat for 3rd party headsets. Sigh.

Hey DX! If your headset is working when talking to Cortana then It should be fine>Maybe the other people are in a private party and that's why they can't hear you chatting. Sometimes this happens to me then I look and see if they're in a party. Sometimes
they are and sometimes they're not and just choose not to talk. Hope this helps

As you can see above in my repro. People can only hear me if I connect headset directly to the controller without the adapter. So game chat settings are not influencing the behavior and of course, I doublechecked that. Next I have tried different controllers:

1. Xbox Original controller - same behavior

2. Xbox One S controller - it appears that Xbox One S controller incompatible with headset adapter at all!!! BEWARE! I cannot plug it in! It is like socket and plug have slightly different sizes.

3. My second Elite wireless controller - same behavior

Chat Balance/In-game music balance/Mute/Volume up down - buttons are functioning, but mic is probably not working for the game chat. And there is no way to troubleshoot and control mic behavior, when you are not in the party.

Ok. I have also tried different headset - Jabra Revo Wireless. Same story = same behavior.

Sorry to hear about the adapter trouble. Do you possibly have a friend with a headset adapter you can test? From what you've described it sounds like your troubleshooting has narrowed this down to an adapter issue. Let us know when you get a chance

It is narrowed down to either software or/and adapter hardware. Why? Because party chat works fine.

So, I managed to catch one of my friends online and he said that he faces the same behavior with the headset adapter. He also narrowed down the issue to controllers that have audio jack input. He said that controllers that do not have this input work fine.
We have not experimented with game chat vs party chat - we were in game chat and he was not using headset adapter as it does not work with game chat, but at least we have confirmation that more players face same issue.

Thanks for letting us know what you found. Were you by chance able to test a different headset adapter to see if there has been any change? I understand another friend is having similar issues, but it's worth giving a try to make sure we can narrow this

What exactly do you mean - test a different headset adapter? My friend has its own headset adapter and he is experiencing the same behavior.

I tried this and it still does not work. I only get sound if the a50 is plugged into the chat adapter. I've updated the firmware from both the PC and Xbox One controllers, set the optical and bitstream, maxed voice on the headset, and then played with every
conceivable combination on the chat adapter. Nothing has worked. I've turned it on and off, uinplugged and plugged things in and still nothing. I still only get audio if the a50 headset is plugged into the chat adapter.

Yeah just get the chat adapter and plug any headphones with the standard 3.5mm stereo jack and your good to go. Just set the balance on the chat adapter to full game/system audio and your good to go for wireless audio from your controller like the Ruku remote
does. $25 for the adapter, but if you get one of the headsets designed as a wireless headset through the controller for the Xbox One they all come with the chat adapter as well.

Here is how I understand the whole headset compatability works (maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong):

GAME AUDIO

If your headset gets the game audio via a box linked to your gaming machine via optic audio out - this audio will continue to work as designed, as the xbox One has optic out as well.

CHAT AUDIO

If your headset gets the chat audio via a direct bluetooth wireless link to the xbox360 machine - then this headset will not work with chat audio on the xbox One.

If your headset gets the chat audio wireless via a bluetooth puck that plugs into the 360 controller (not a direct wireless link to the gaming machine) -then this may work with the xbox One depending on how the forthcoming adapter works with next gen controllers.

If your headset gets the chat audio via a cable directly connected to your xbox360 controller - then this may work on the xbox One depending on how the upcoming adapter works with the xbox One controller.

Seems silly not to buy the console of choice in favour of your headset when an adapter will be available?

The
Warhead is unique in its fully wireless operation. There will be no adapter for it.

If you throw away $300 on a headset designed to work with a single product (Warhead's mic doesn't work with PC or PS3), then you shouldn't have a problem buying another one that's Xbox One-specific.
