[XBOX ONE] Headset adapter constantly freezes controller and doesn't recognize headsets

My headset adapter often causes the controller to "freeze", turning unresponsive. I have to hard reset the console and remove the batteries from the controller to get control back. This happens when I plug in the adapter.

Also, the adapter often simply doesn't recognize there is a headset plugged in even though there is. Unplugging and reinserting the adapter doesn't fix the issue (in fact that often just freezes the controller as I mention above). Hard resetting the console
is the only solution, and even then it is random whether or not the headset will be detected.

This started happening after i downloaded the latest controller update.

Sounds like the controller could be out of date so it wouldn't recognize the headset. Try our

Controller Update page and keep us posted on how it goes!

Headset Adapter for Elite Controller and RIG 500's Problem.

I recently bought an elite controller. I have had a rig 500 headset for a small while along with an adapter. After I synced the controller to the Xbox, I plugged in my headset adapter and to check if it was working, I pressed the mute button expecting to
see the orange light appear. But to no avail. It's like the controller doesn't recognize the adapter is plugged into the controller. Any help would be really appreciated.

This happened pretty often on old controller firmware. I would attempt to update the firmware again in hopes that it resolves your issue. Maybe the update was bad or did not get applied correctly.

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately the firmware on my controller is updated. As I mentioned this didn't even start happening until after that I updated the controller.

The issue still happens every time I plug in the headset adapter. I'm still narrowing down the exact cause, but it seems if I join a party or start a game prior to attaching the adapter the controller will freeze when I do attach it and then the system has
to be hard restarted for me to be able to use the controller again. Sometimes it will freeze if I unplug the headset from the adapter and plug it back in. This happens with multiple headsets (Astro A40s and an Xbox 360 headset).

Thanks for coming to the forums. This means that it is not being recognized being plugged into the controller. When you updated your controller, was the headset plugged in at the same time? If not update it again, with the headset plugged in. There is also
a
stereo headset adapter that may help in this situation.

Thanks for coming to the forums with your issue. We understand the icon on the home screen shows your controller is not being recognized. We recommend to first try and

update the controller. When you do this make sure the headset is plugged in. If it says no update available go ahead and hit A anyways.

Most common issue with the headset not being recognized, is the 3.5mm port on the controller is bad. There is a

headset adapter that can be purchased that usually helps with this situation.

If your Xbox one Controller doesn't work or gets disconnected after you plug in your Stereo Headset Adapter, unplug your adapter,
and then update your controller without the adapter. After the controller is updated, insert your Stereo Headset Adapter back into the controller.

Thanks for keeping us updated. Have you considered using a
stereo headset adapter? Most times if the headset is not being recognized at all, its the 3.5mm jack. Also what type of controller and headset are they? Ex. Microsoft, astro, afterglow, turtle beach.

I would recommend the official Xbox brand stereo headset as it claims to be compatible with all xbox one wireless controllers:

It probably doesn't need the stereo headset adapter - but if you're going to buy this headset, better just buy the stereo headset adapter to get your other headsets, that you already own, to work properly
