    Xbox One HDMI Cable (Original)

    Hi,

I recently upgraded to an Xbox Series S from an original first generation Xbox One.

I had the XBox set up in the bottom of large bespoke book shelf which is attached to the wall and the console's HDMI cable runs through the back of the bookshelf to my TV higher up the wall. I have kept using this cable for my Series S as I do not have a 4K TV yet.

If I get a 4K TV will this same cable be able to handle 4K/60fps or will I need to dismantle my massive bookshelf to replace the HDMI cable?

    Thanks for any help offered.

    :)

    Hi,

You likely won't get 60fps/60Hz at 4K with your old original Xbox One cable. The original Xbox one only has an HDMI 1.4 port and it's highly likely the Microsoft supplied HDMI for the original Xbox One is bandwidth limited to the HDMI 1.4 port. This means 30Hz at 4K and you can pretty much forget about HDR.

To get the best from the new console you'll need to use the supplied HDMI cable which is designed for HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.

    HDMI Cable?

No, no :) Swap the HDMI cable (that was included with the Xbox One), from the Xbox One to the Motorola cable box. Then, take the HDMI cable that you were originally using from the Motorola to the TV, and plug it in to the Xbox One to the TV. Long story to
the why. If your really interested let me know.

find an 8K HDMI cable which tends to be better made for UHD resolutions and higher bandwidth

The cable is a good one and should work but as the original console was never set up for 4K you may find that you have some minor issues or degradation in the video. If it all possible I would recommend trying to use the cable that came with the newer console.
