So you have no interest in HD rom based movies either then so the topic thread should not interest you. You all was a general term for everyone else & not just you yk.

But you are advocating for a dead technology. What you want takes away time and resources for features that will make money. HD DVD died a long time ago, implementing this feature helps very few people.

You should really want as many things to work on an xbox one as possible and not accept less than the previous consoles ability. That's just a bit dumb to accept that situation as is.

Tbf the drive in the xb1 could have easily been like the GGW-H20L without adding much cost and needing that much more done to the media app/ blu ray player

No, I should want features that matter. Just because you are all salty HD DVD lost to blu ray doesnt mean MS should focus resources to implement a dead technology into a new console. If MS announced today that this was being implemented its not going to
help anyone. Its not going to boost HDDVD sales, no one is going to run out to buy a console because you can suddenly play HDDVDs. It benefits probably less than 10000 people. There is no money in it.

^ So a user supports Microsoft and backs their platform spends thousands on HD-DVD and hardware and backs their vision of the future and when it fails Microsoft washes their hands from their loyal supporters and offers no apology no promises of doing better
next time or simply later on allowing a perfectly fine addon to be attached to the xbox one without using up too much time getting it to work just because essentially there is no money it for them.

So you're only happy if Microsoft devotes time and effort into making Microsoft money without any care for what you would like. No wonder they take the micky out of us with users attitudes like yours. Yeah Ms walk all over us we like it we'll still buy
whatever your selling.

Anyways enough. You know my viewpoint I know yours. I would like them to devote some effort into keeping a few thousand of it's customers happy those who had the misfortune of supporting, backing the losing format at great expense and you don't want them
keeping anyone happy it seems.

I won't reply infact I won't even be reading it.

I have about 200 hd-dvd's and I wouldn't mind support being added to X1. It would mean I could ditch my 360 slim. It has nothing to do with blu ray, vcr or beta max. All I want is some legacy software support. The code is already there for basic playback,
it surely wouldn't take much for MS to update it for the X1. We are not asking for new hardware or new movies, just some playback.

@ burning todi, I went with the 360 as console of choice and hd dvd was the first way for me to watch hd movies. At the time I spent over £1000 on a hd ready tv, 1080i, those were the days.

11. Amen Highland, I have about 186 HD-DVD movies and have not been offered a dime to replace them on Blu-ray, which to me is inferior anyway. Look ICEstorm, the 360 was launched WITHOUT an hd dvd player, the player was launched AFTER, with a DISC with the drivers
and software contained on IT. I still have it. The player runs through usb. All this is OLD technology according to you, but every piece of MODERN electronics makes use of USB. It's not a hard concept. But, since you seem to be loaded and can afford to RE
purchase somethng you already own, why not toss us some cash so we can also replace our hd dvd's on bluray and you can quit worrying about coming on these forums and defending m$, AGAIN!!
You should know I meant it reads udf 2.5/2.6 already
The ability to read an HD DVD disc using an HD DVD drive doesn't get around the fundamentally incompatible UI and menu system differences between HD DVD and Blu-ray. No
UI, no playback. Can't just read the files on the disc that way and play them.
Amen Highland, I have about 186 HD-DVD movies and have not been offered a dime to replace them on Blu-ray
Warner Bros had a Red2Blu program. You'd
have to complain to the other publishers about their lack of a similar offering.
The "player" is software that runs on the 360. The discs don't work properly without a way to read the files and for end-users that means
the player software. MS doesn't have any player software that runs on x86. The player software that exists in third party products like TotalMedia Theater has not been maintained for years.
Says the person with 186 HD DVD movies. My HD DVD collection was around 30 movies. Those movies on Blu-ray are rather inexpensive.
^ Shame Ms did not compensate those users who bought the HD-DVD for £139 and then spent thousands on HD content
Why would they? Do you think Sony refunded people who supported Betamax?
to see this technology be dumped
at the drop of a hat
If you think that's how it went down, you don't know much about HD DVD.
Pity they don't allow you to connect one of the players to the XBOX ONE PC
Xbox One is not a PC.
saying as the internal drive must be udf2.5/2.6
compliant so therefore has a driver to read the format
udf is a disk format, not a driver format.
the software must already decode AACS to allow you to view protected blu rays & the Usb driver won't be hard e.g the pid&vid is probably in there
already and just blocked.
That's not how any of that works.

HD DVD and Blu-ray are not just containers for content. Both HD DVD and Blu-ray included interactive content executable/formatting support standards. Those standards were incompatible. It's not just a matter of reading the disc, it's also a matter of handling
the interactive content. As the HD DVD player software was written for PowerPC, MS would have to create it from scratch and then test it against a dead format.

The XBOX 360 HD DVD drive works fine with a PC and PC player software. ArcSoft no longer maintains the HD DVD software in TotalMedia Theater, but the code is still in the application and it still works. Go build a small HTPC out of an Intel NUC if you really
can't be bothered to rebuy your HD DVD collection on Blu-ray or UltraViolet or iTunes.
The question should not be if we want to support a dead tech. In the "professional technology field' you come across desktops and servers which still operate Windows XP, and WIndows 7. This is not because IT cannot replace a piece of hardware but more
because the user requires the preservation of a functionality not available in WIndows 8, a legacy app will not work or not supported in Windows 8 or user does not have the time to learn a completely new interface and it would be a significant impact to their
productivity.

Out with the old and in with the new is evident but all things can be accomplished with grace and tact. You would get a greater PR and fan base rating if you valued the previous investments in Microsoft wireless head gear and Microsoft console additions
which people have invested in obtaining for the purposes of believing that Microsoft's direction at the time was the best.

This is important because it shows that while we push forward, it is nice to know that Microsoft appreciates the loyalty we have given them by transitioning as much of the investment we have made over to the new console. We already transferred the Xbox
360 Dashboard to a degree and basically the multimedia (Blue-Ray, Music Player, etc) on the XB1 are seriously lacking in contrast to the XB1.

If it were so difficult to accomplish then why is the answer the following:

1.) By a micro home theater PC.

2.) Install W7 or W8

3.) ArcSoft's TotalMedia Theater 5 or 6

HTPC = $300-450

Windows = $150-200

Acrsoft Total Media = $80

About $700 for a work around seems like a slap in the face for the loyalty. No need to answer with disrespectful remarks and insinuations. Those who choose to differ from my opinion can do so but please, if your answer is just based on the ignorance of
"I know how to surf the web and facebook like a pro" then you have much to learn about the side of technology which is truly rich.

If I invest in a $3000 desktop PC and us it to strictly surf the web then I have wasted money. The same holds true for technology in business. It's just that our fan base is the business and it involves more than just swapping out PCs and servers. It
is a balance of architecting, planning, PR, negotiations, but more importantly customer satisfaction. The later entails a partnership in which the corporate technology department addresses the need for technological change while taking into consideration
that most, or all, of the previous functionality and access needs to preserved and/or improved. If it cannot be preserved then an effort is made to ask the software vendor for a software enhancement or change. This is part of the IT lifecycle. But most
of you already know this.

I can honestly say there is a reason why programmers rarely ascend into significant management positions. It is simply because programmers for the most part preface their responses with the face of "It's going to be extremely difficult" when in most cases,
it's just work... but so is getting up and showing and every other mundane task you can think of..

If MS really wanted to crush Sony, and it had a great chance but PR wasn't at the top of Microsoft's list, then MS needs to start valuing it's fan base and win them over by showing that they are appreciated and MS acknowledges that, unlike the PC market,
the console war is a much more frail beast.

The XB1 is a perfect example of what I am saying. PS4 outsold the XB1 by 1.4 million units. What should MS learn from this exercise? If the powers that be do the math, DRM and Internet a must killed 1.4 million consoles of potential revenues because someone
decide to dismiss the value of a simple user's perception. 1.4 million at $499.00 is equal to $698,600,000 just in console revenues. So , MS, go and show these numbers to the board members and the stock holders. Let me know if you walk out with your heads
attached to your neck.

Please, make no mistake that I am a huge MS proponent but MS made some seriously bad PR and marketing mistakes that are basically unforgivable which extend from the Windows Phone to the tables to the desktop and now the game console. I own all of the above
and love the new changes but I am ashamed to see just how poorly the non-desktop products sell due to bad PR and marketing. Microsoft, please stop the self inflicted bleeding. I am not saying that it will be easy but it is a road worth traveling.
