    Xbox One Hardware

    Hi all!

So after constantly hearing of the uproar of the 'lack' of 1080p native games on the Xbox One, I decided to do a little research. I found that, according to developers, the main problem is the use of the DDR3 RAM with eSRAM. With that, I have 2 questions:

    1. What was the thinking process of putting a slower DDR3 RAM with eSRAM into the Xbox One compared to the GDDR5 RAM of the PS4? Is there a certain reason that using that type of RAM is better for the console?

    2. For you techies: I know that we are still very early in this generation. Developers are still no doubt getting used to the hardware, but in your opinion, if possible, how will the Xbox One be able to output 1080p native while still using the DDR3 RAM
    with eSRAM? Any thoughts?

This is in NO way a post to bring down the Xbox One. This is simply a post by an intrigued Xbox One owner as to how the hardware of the console will be able to function even better down the road.

Thanks for all replies, and happy gaming!

    :)

MS isn't using GDDR3 ram they are.using DDR3 clocked at 2133MHz. Also the difference between the PS4 gpu and the XB1 is akin to the differences between a HD 7970 and a low end HD 7800 high end HD 7700.

I'm not going to tackle your first question, because I don't know the answer.

As for the second question. Forza 5 runs natively at 1080p. As far as I know (please correct me if I'm wrong here), but I think Diablo 3:
Ultimate Evil Edition also runs at 1080p.

Xbox 360 CAN play games natively at 720p as evidence Halo 4 is natively 720p. And that gen runs on PowerPC 3.2Ghz tri-core CPU and 512MB GDDR3 RAM.

Xbox 1 has 8GB DDR3 RAM based off a better graphics card AMD Radeon HD7000 series GPU, an AMD Jaguar 8 core APU running at 1.75GHz as well. This is all better than 360. So game developers SHOULD be able to make games at 1080p. Game devs are just not smart
enough or lazy to try or say well it's not GDDR5. But if 343 Industries which is a Microsoft subsidiary can make games at 720p for LAST gen and heard that Halo MCC Beta is it is running at 1080p 60fps, then I'm sure Xbox 1 can run games at 1080p. They can
also make games as super big as they want since the media device which Xbox 1 uses for storage can support w-a-y more storage capacity (blu-ray) than the media Xbox 360 uses which is DVD. They can make a game like 50GB even 80GB big at it will fit onto a blu-ray
    disk... easy.

The ddr3 had lower latency then gddr5 and with the esram has a much much higher bandwidth then gddr5 esp when is shared between gpu and cpu they have a real working code on the Xbox one at over 200gbs

    wccftech.com/sony-ps4-effective-bandwidth-140-gbs-disproportionate-cpu-gpu-scaling

The above link is to real code on another console that uses only gddr5 as you can see when the cpu is used the bandwidth drops to 120gps nearly half of the xbox, that slide is from Sony direct.

So in conclusion don't believe PR

Overall Xbox 1 has better hardware specs than Xbox 360. If Xbox 360 can even play games natively at 720p, then Xbox 1 surely is capable of running games at 1080p.

Does anyone know the bandwidth of GDDR3?

DDR3 would be better right cuz it runs at about 68.2GB/s. So what about the competition.

Surely DDR3 RAM and the AMD HD Radeon 7000 series GPU in the Xbox 1 console along with the AMD Jaguar 8 core APU running at 1.75Ghz, can pull off games at 1080p. Perhaps game devs are focusing more on "quality" than "resolution" this going for a lower resolution
    on the Xbox 1.

In conclusion if Xbox 360 can run even some games at 720p native aka Halo 4, and it uses GDDR3 RAM which probably has a lower bandwidth than DDR3, not to mention an ancient graphics card on the Xbox 360, then the hardware on Xbox 1 should be capable of running
games at 1080p. The reason why game devs aren't making games in 1080p for Xbox 1 is probably because they want to go for "quality" rather than just "resolution".

Thank you all for your replies! I haven't checked back here for some time, but I came back to see some excellent answers. It's so hard to trust anyone these days when they give their *truth* about the hardware... The internet is a warzone filled with people
who argue with 0 knowledge about anything hardware related. Again, thank you for these great answers!

Stevie all the above answers u got are correct but incomplete...there is no doubt that xbox one can hit 1080p...however this is conditional, a game made purely based on x1 capabilities can hit 1080p/60 howerver if the game is made on broader available HW
for devs, gddr5 takes u further it takes the graphics into a place where x1 will be uncomfortable to keep the same pace at 1080p.

The issue with esram is not the bandwith but it is too small, 8gb of gddr5 provides better performance...MS unfortunately under dimensioned their system...to save on cost and to provide tv functionalities

  11. Jesus Christ does anyone actually care? Some of you people game from your brain instead of your hearts. Forza 2 horizon is out next week and looks amazing compared to drive club on ps4, so who the hell cares? I have been gaming since 1980 and worked on the
ps2 for Sony in 1999 and i couldnt care less about specs. I wish some of you gamers (usually teenagers and kids) would stop trying to act like you know about technical things and play the dam games.

Lets shut up about specs eh?

At the end of the day both the Ps4 and Xbox One can hit 1080p/60fps, but a game being 1080p doesn't mean its "better" than a game running at 900p or even 720p.

Look at Ryse, its a great game and recently got an award for best graphics (think it was best graphics, someone will either confirm or correct this) and it was "only" 900p.

At the end of the day games shouldn't be liked or disliked purely on its resolution, yes resolution is important, but its only a small part of a game. Plus when in the middle of a fire fight or power sliding round a corner, nobody will be able to say for
definite if a game is 900p or 1080p. Only when the game is paused and studied will they be able to ascertain a games resolution.

1 reason to your first question is the way the XB1 is set up with basically 3 operating systems.. one for controlling the games, one for the UI & Kinect and one to help bridge the 2... if the X1 had a faster type... faster means hotter... hotter means louder...
hotter and louder means not so efficient so the fans need to kick on...

the X1 was designed to be in the living room, controlling all.. not in a 13 years old room that probably smells like rotten bologna and spilled Mt Dew.. a place where heat and noise do not matter... even though I am sure the extra circulation could help....

    that being said

    Let me ask you this..

What is quieter... watching a movie on netflix on the XB1 or watching it on a 360.. if you do not remember how load a 360 is.. go turn one on

and you are looking at somewhat old facts...and this is an old argument... it was the SDKs from the initial launch that held back the 1080p games.. the recent ones are up to date and wait till the DX12 ones start to circulate
