Well I knew if you modded it to allow you to cheat they would and I still disagreed that the console itself would stay instabanned even if modded back (I thought they should ban the user account, not the console. And if they are going to ban the console,
they could at least make it easy for buyers to find out if they are buying a banned console, the part I really objected to the most... MS was making it easy for those cheaters to go ahead and sell an unsuspecting person the console and if they are going to
cheat, they probably will easily lie and claim the console is not banned/modded).

But this is even more ridiculous cause this isn't some one trying to cheat but just trying to get a larger hard drive than what is supplied. I can understand voiding warranty (They are messing with it and MS can't be held responsible for them breaking it),
but outright banning it just seems to speak more that MS doesn't consider the xbox console something you bought despite the large price (it's not even at a discount to account for the fact you don't actually own it) but just paid for the privilege of using
it. Not really a direction I personally prefer to condone from a company.

Absolutely not. That enables modders to determine what MS can detect and what they cannot detect. Modded consoles are not banned right away.
And maybe hack the executables on the console. Or change the partition sizes and screw it up so it doesn't run properly...

Microsoft treats the Xbox One the same way they treated the 360 - as a hardware client for Xbox Live. Only sanctioned devices are permitted to access the Service. It's their sandbox, their rules. If you don't like them don't buy the console. The only way
to affect any sort of change is via the wallet.

There are plenty of us who like this walled garden/sanctioned hardware approach.
Oh, you own the physical hardware, no question. However, If you want to use Xbox
Live your hardware must be maintained in a sanctioned manner.

P.S. if you consider $500 to be a great expense than Xbox One is not for you. You aren't the target demographic.

@IceStorm What is there to like about a "walled garden/sanctioned hardware approach"? You appear to be computer literate so you are aware that you need to go well beyond simply swapping a HD to enable you to "hack" the dashboard, MP, etc and they're going
to catch those people on the software end anyway.

MS does this as a way to nickel and dime us. They make proprietary hardware ( 360 HD ) or give third parties exclusives for accessories. I own a Fanatec racing wheel that I can't use on my One and probably never will. I have a half dozen headsets that also
    can't be used.

When we get external drive support will we be able to buy any external drive of our choosing or will we be forced into buying a MS "sanctioned" device? I guess we will find out.

    There
is no sanctioned method to perform a swap. By definition, you'd have to use third party tools. That means all manner of potential issues, intended or otherwise.
Accessories are part of every console
    market to date.
The proprietary nature of the 360 HDD allows that HDD to be moved between 360 consoles at will. The alternative is locking the drive to
the console (what the PS3 does). There are pros and cons to both approaches.
Yes, we will, though to date there's been no indication that the expansion drives will be proprietary.

  5. I have the same question. I'm stuck with a 500Gb and considering upgrading the internal drive to at least 2 Tb drive or a 1Tb SSD. It's a little unclear if this would get me banned (which I really wouldn't want to of course).

Just talked to a XBox Ambassador (support by non-MS staff) and their answer was: Yes you get banned. In contrast to what a bunch of people say who actually swapped out the internal hard drive for a bigger one.

    Dear MS:

Please allow your loyal users to upgrade their XBox One drive ... what's the harm in doing that?

You'd support early adopters who have been stuck with a slow 500Gb drive (5400RPM) for the past 2 years.

  6. ..........

Hello "Hansaplastique" Xbox One Hard Drive. :)

    ..........

It would have been nice to be able to swap the internal HDD of the Xbox One instead of having an external HDD stick out like an eye sore.

    ...........

I still use the 20 GB HDD for my Xbox 360 and this HDD is so easy to replace Xbox One Hard Drive. :)

I am pretty sure that a couple of HDD upgrades became available (60 GB, 120 GB, and 250 GB) shortly after my design model Xbox 360 came out.

After this, the Xbox 360 Slim was introduced and I believe that this too had an easily swappable HDD Xbox One Hard Drive. :)

    ..........

Have a nice day or afternoon or night "Hansaplastique" Xbox One Hard Drive. :)

@Hansa - why not just use an external drive with much better read/write speeds and leave the internal one for OS only?

    Xbox One Hard Drive.

2 external drives up to a limit of 16TB between them or a max of 2TB internal and more heat, hmmm let me think.

  9. I just spoke to a Microsoft Answer Tech. Replacing the HDD in your Xbox One will NOT get you banned. Again, it is NOT something that will get you banned. What they apparently don't want is people replacing the HDs with someone else's account....I should
mention that they highly recommend that you not replace your own HD, but, it won't actually get you banned.

To all the people giving crap to the poster of this thread. Asking is how you learn, and asking people who actually know is what you should have done before giving bad advice and crap. Xbox One Hard Drive. :D

Xbox 360 hard drive transfer cable

I'm almost positive you can if you have the hard drive space but not at the same time. Plug one of the hard drives in the hard drive bay. Then plug in your empty hard drive into the transfer cable then the transfer cable to one of the usb ports on your xbox.
Transfer the data and repeat for the other hard drive. That should transfer all the data onto one hard drive. Hope this helps!
