xbox one gold account - xbox 360 online gaming?

my nephew got a xbox one for Christmas & currently has a gold membership, he also has his old faithful xbox 360 though his gold account was switched to the newer machine.

I have an xbox 360 & we want to play online together, will his xbox one gold membership allow him to use his old 360 for online gaming or would this require him to have gold memberships for both the xbox one & the 360?

I am assuming he can't use his xbox one & play online against a 360 player although I will happily be proved wrong about that if its possible.

First time use/setup

Hi. I've bought a day one edition for my boys a surprise for Xmas but not had a chance to test it yet. Because one of my lads already has a 360 in his room with his own gold account, I am going to set up the xbox One with his as the primary account fir the gold access as that way we can use the same gold account on his 360 and the shared Xbox one.

However, if I set the Xbox one up late one night presumably I will have to add the primary/gold account that it will use (I.e my son's) as part of the initial set up . Then I'll try it with one of the games. So by doing this, when he next uses his 360 will he see that his account had been used on an Xbox one? Obviously I don't want him to suspect there is an Xbox one in the house!!!

can someone just confirm/clear up for me - can i roll over my gamer tag from xbox 360 onto the xbone and can i carry over my unused gold membership from my xbox 360 onto the xbone?

i assume that if i roll over my gold account onto the xbone then i can no longer go online on the 360?

If is signed into the Xbox 360 with his profile and still has an active gold membership then he should still be able to play online multiplayer games on the Xbox 360.

 

he has the gold membership for the xbox one but no longer for the 360, does this mean we cant play together? thanks for your reply by the way.

if your nephew is using the same account on both 360 and Xbox One, then the account should have Gold on both consoles,

Gold is something that is connected to the Account and not the console, so on whatever console he uses the account it should have the Gold subscription.

if he created a new account on the Xbox One, then there are two different accounts on the consoles and then only one of those got the Gold subscription

So depending on the situation he can or can not play together with you, also be aware that it will also depend on the game what options of playing together are present.
