    Xbox One Memory RAM

    I have looked at the new Xbox One specifications. What appalled me is the RAM memory allocation at 8 Gb. The newer games that are supposedly being written for the new Xbox One are definitely going to need more than 8 Gb of RAM to smooth play. Will there be the possibility of upgrading to 32 Gb of RAM? I would definitely buy the system if it came with 32 Gb of RAM, otherwise, the newer version is not much better specification wise than the Xbox 360.

    500 GB Hard Drive

    I think it's quite unnecessary to make it 1024 GB. I mean I'm fine with just 200 GB, 500 GB is still alot for me, so to be honest, I don't really mind if my Xbox one has 500 GB.

    500gb hdd after formatting and system use and reserve is about 340GB.

    cod bo3 is around 45GB

    GTA5 is about 50GB

    nhl 17 not sure probably about 25GB

    mincraft about 2GB tops

    fallout 4 no idea

    so to answer your question there is something iffy with your available space, do you have anything else installed like apps and addons.

    Call of Duty: Black Ops III is 58.4GB without the downloadable content.

    Fallout 4's normal file size is 30.2GB; 41.4GB with all of the downloadable content.

    Is a Gb on xbox one different?

    No, it's not different. You do get 512GB, but the 478GB available is because of what is already installed on the Xbox (Dashboard, and pre-installed apps)

    Is a Gb on xbox one different?

    to put it simply

    since the dawn of time

    Manufacturers of the drives work out size as 1000MB (Megabytes) per GB (Gigabyte)

    Software size is worked out as 1024MB per GB

    due to formatting of the drive, then minus any cache/system files etc.

    Is a Gb on xbox one different?

    It's confusing cos manufacturers and operating systems typically use "GB" to refer to both Gigabytes (GB) and Gibibytes (GiB).

    1GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes

    1GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes

    The manufacturer of your SSD is using Gigabytes to measure its capacity, but the Xbox measures it in Gibibytes, hence the difference of around 7%.

    In the case of external drives, you have the full capacity to use for installing games/apps/DLC, however, in some cases - e.g. if you were using the SSD as a replacement for the internal drive - then the Xbox would split it into multiple partitions, so some space would be taken up by the OS, some by a partition used for updates/caching etc. and you'd end up with considerably less than 478GB free.

    So, yeah, in your case it's just cos of the difference between the ways the capacity is measured, GB vs. GiB.
