Xbox One Gateway and NAT problems

What Country/State/Province do you live in? Australia

Modem brand & model number: Belkin AC1800 (F9K1118v1) modem/router combo

    Router brand & model number:

    Wired or wireless: Wired

    Things you have tried: below

    Is UPnP Enabled? Yes/no/Unknown No

Do you have a NAT error? If so, what is your NAT type? Moderate (both console and in-game Ghosts)

    Any Error Codes you encounter:

Who is your ISP?(Internet Service Provider): Telstra Bigpond

Problem 1: Every time (100%) I turn the X1 off on the console itself (glowing botton) --> upon startup the X1 has forgotten my Gateway. I have to go into Network Settings and re-enter the Gateway. So very annoying. I do know that one of my brothers friends
also has this problem. Voice command "turn-off" puts the X1 to sleep - no problems with gateway.

Problem 2 - Nats. Current router setup - uPnp - disabled,,, ivP6 - disabled,,, Static IP set via Belkins DHCP,,, Port Forwarded all ports - even added 3075

Have tried --> Placing the X1 into the DMZ - no change (so I guess it is doing the same job as my Port Forwarding). Internet explorer trick accomplishes nothing. I've hard resetted the X1 a number of times. Power cyclings modem/router after each change
up (also has self healing 5:30 am every day).

Notes: As many say - the xbox 360 gave me no troubles in setup and achieving Open Nats. There have been periods of time I'm able to get the X1 Nats Open - but there seems to be no pattern. Best description would be I find the X1 spasmodic in terms of
Nat. When I placed the X1 into the DMZ - I can still get messages of (behind a port restricted Nat). But as I say, I have at times achieved - behind a cone Nat. I have had the X1 since launch - and just can't stabilies the Nats to Open.

Thoughts - Doing my research I get the impression that this may all have to do with double Nats, etc, Question - do you get double Nats in modem/router combos (aka Gateways)?. I'm hoping that these problems will be addressed in an X1 update - because there
is no way it should be this hard to setup a console and modem/router. I understand X1 is using some ivP6 - and this is causing troubles,,, but if I've disabled ivp6 on my router, should this not bypass such problems? I've never had to use bridge mode - maybe
this is one possible solution. However, my home setup includes a wired console, wired PC, and mobile devices - all running off the Belkin. Does a bridged setup affect all other devices?

I am a regular member on the Call of Duty Ghosts forum - and have helped many gamers with their own setups, Alas, I cant help myself, lols. I look forward to hearing some pearls of wisdom from the Xbox crowd. Perhaps if I can get my own to work, I'll be
able to pass knowledge on if similar circumstances occur for others. Thankyou Xbox One Gateway and NAT problems :)

PS - I'm on my PC using google chrome - I can't format the page as I wanted. trying to make type bold or not - it is not working properly.

    :)

  2. How do you fix error code 0x89234013?

This is the support article for double NAT. Basically seems like it's an issue with having your gateway and your router doing the same tasks.

Double NAT Detected in Xbox One Network Settings

The more simple your network the less things there are to go wrong. If you have a router and a gateway and can get yourself to just the gateway you'll be better off.

  3. Xbox one strict NAT with AT&T U-Verse 2wire 3801 HGV gateway

I'm having problems with my xbox one. I bought mine on launch, and I havent had any problems connecting to games or anything. My brother just got a Xbox one about a month ago and since he got his. I have been having problems connecting to games and parties,
It says my Nat is strict.

Is it possible to connect Two xbox ones on my gateway without NAT problems?

Edit for clarification: Just looked into my router. The ivP6 "passthrough" is turned off. It states that my "network is now iPv6 compatiable". I actually don't have a method for disabling iPv6 fully.

    Greetings Falcon!
Modem brand & model number: Belkin AC1800 (F9K1118v1) modem/router combo
This device is
not a combined modem-router, according to the
    documentation/Manual
for the Belkin AC1800 DB (F9k1118v1).
Thoughts - Doing my research I get the impression that this may all have to do with double Nats, etc, Question - do you get double Nats in modem/router combos (aka Gateways)?
If you have a modem, where the router/NAT is built-in
to this device, and on top of this layer, add an additional NAT device to your network, then you will break the fundamental rule for UDP over NAT traversal.
I understand X1 is using some ivP6
It mainly uses Teredo for tunneling IPv6 over UDP through NAT. Not native (at current stage).
I've never had to use bridge mode
It is strongly recommended that you configure your combined device to be operating in
bridge mode, whenever you add an additional NAT device to your already existing NAT'd network.
Does a bridged setup affect all other devices?
Those devices that physically connects to this device will be affected (naturally). Any device on your network that are physically connected to your combined modem-router, terminates
to your neighboring router (Belkin AC1800). For any device on your wireless network that communicates through the built-in wireless router, must continue to do so with your neighboring router (Belkin AC1800).

Post back and let us know how that goes and we'll go from there.

  6. Turn on bridge mode and make sure upnp is turned on the belkin, there is a good section of the website actually that explains this

    forums.xbox.com/.../default.aspx

If it doesn't have your version select the closest one you can find the layout is usually very similar if not identical.

This is happening because your behind double NAT setup, basically you need to turn on bridge mod which will register only 1 nat of your belkins then. And everything will work then. Make sure upnp is enabled or ports forwarded.

    Thanks for replying Taidara.

Just to confirm for you the Belkin AC1800 comes in two forms for lack of a better word. a) Gigabyte router,, and b) Gigabyte modem router (the one I have)

Questions: The 360 never had any problems with using a combined modem/router. Why the dramas with the X1?

I've looked all over the Belkins help section/manual - no clues given on how to set up a bridge,, any ideas?

Have you heard of the problem of the X1 "forgetting" gateway when turned off (not asleep)?

Snakebit - thanks for the help. It's getting very late where I am - I'll see what I can do with bridging tomorrow.

Taidara -- On the bottom of my router is the model F9K1118 - it does actually just specifies to the router part.. On the box is the model number F9J1107 which refers to the combo of F9K1118 and F9J1000.

Looking more closely, this is how it is setup --> data cable from wall (DSL line) goes to Power Source block which is plugged into mains power. Turns out - Power source block is the modem. Single lead comes out of power source which splits near the end into
a data and power cable - both which go into router. From there, I have an ethernet cable running from one of the LAN ports to the Xbox one.

Sorry about confusions - I'm trying to get my head around it.

  11. Its understandable falcon it looked like that a lot so basically if you enable the bridging mode then everything should be fixed, just try to set it up and lets see what happens, also just incase make sure dmz is set up properly if it still says strict.

Lols - I just read over Taidara's original post. So a bridge mode is needed if you have two routers in play (two Natd decives). My setup is purely modem and router , this means one Nat - correct??? Thus - I shouldn't be thinking about bridging.

Still , I can't understand what could be giving me moderate Nats when I've setup Static IP - tried Port Forwarding and using the DMZ. Remember I'm getting the message "behind a port restricted cone Nat".

I'm very sleepy, lols, thanks guys Xbox One Gateway and NAT problems :)

Let's try to determine whether you are in a double NAT situation. Log in to the web interface of your Belkin router and look at the WAN IP reported there. If it is a private class IP (see explanation at What is a Private IP Address?), then your
Belkin router is behind another NAT router.

    WAN IP 121.217.145.xxx.

So - this doesn't fall in the ranges for Private IPs in your link. Good news Xbox One Gateway and NAT problems :)

Thanks Gaz Xbox One Gateway and NAT problems :) I'll pick this back up when I wake up.

    OK - BIG UPDATE

Nat issues - I'm now Open Xbox One Gateway and NAT problems :) But I honestly would like to understand exactly what's going on.

So - what I did. I deactivated all PF. Then enabled uPnp. Restarted router. Xone Open and Ghosts Open. So I ran further tests. Disabled uPnp, Re-activated al PF's. Xone Open Nat, but Ghosts Moderate (tried IE trick - nothing). So I deactivated PFs, enabled
uPnp. Voila back to Open and Open. (Btw - I was holding bumpers after multiplayer tests - after each change).

My thoughts - I can understand that enabling Upnp refreshes the Nat table. What I don't understand is why my Port Forward was not working. I can guarantee I was using all advised ports for the Xone. Reading a bit about the Belkins uPnp - it automatically
decides what to use - PFing or PTing, etc. (Should I have set up Port Triggering instead ? I thought this was useful if you had more than one console. I only have the one console.

Huge news (But I'll keep an eye on this) - forgetting Gateway issue. It seems that using uPnp has stopped the Xone forgetting my gateway when I turn off the console via the glowing button on the front panel. Anyone have a possible explanation for this.

Note : I have tried setting up my X1 with two different modem/routers combos. The Belkin AC1900 and the Dlink 2890. Both setups were giving the same result.

Boggles my mind that Port Forwarding using a modem/router combo does not work. I've always used Port Forwarding - because I know how to do it and what situations it is applicable. Never any problems with the 360. The X1 is a different kettle of fish.

Thanks to everyone above - at the very least I have been educated.
