Right so I have been doing some research on headsets as I am considering buying a new next gen headset when they come in in the next couple of months. I would like some of your views on the experiences you have had with headsets you have used in the past.
For the 360 I have tried Turtle Beach headsets and Triton. What I have found is that they both were comfortable but the Triton tended to leave me with hearing problems. I have had no problems with a previous Turtle Beach headset but it is rather old and I
need an upgrade. I am considering trying out Astro's heard they are very good and comfortable. Would like some feedback from users of gaming headsets as to sound quality, comfortability and Wireless/Wired. Think it would be useful for other people who are
considering buying a next gen headset to look at other people's opinions also.

    :)

Anything is a "step-up" from the Xbox head thingy they supply. A nice gaming headset will increase your gaming experience 10 fold.

For consoles I own Tritton AX360s AXPros and Astro A50s. Tritton AXPro with a Dolby Digital 5.1 sound source is as close to surround sound speakers as you can get. The individual drivers really make a difference when you have sound from all directions plus
the bass. So for single player games and movies they are my go to. Only downside is being wired, but cable is more than long enough. I don't think wireless is good enough yet to run six channels with high quality, plus the battery life would probably be pretty
bad having to power eight drivers. The inline volume control actually gets fairly warm and it requires power seperate from what the decoder provides. For PC I also own two 5.1 headsets a SpeedLink Medusa 5.1 which were about as good as the Tritton AX360s plus
the ROCCAT Kave 5.1 which are a little better that the AXPros. AXPros are comfortable, but after several hours my ears get a little sore since I wear glasses.

As for playing multiplayer the A50s with the Dolby 7.1 simulated surround sound do a really good job of maintaining directional audio ques. Just as good as using a some Senheiser stereo headphones on PC with Creative Audigy soundcard like the 2ZS and X-fi.
Wireless is great to do something and just walk around the house with them on. Sound quality is great for being wireless plus they go for a little over 8 hours for me before they need to be recharged. Be a good idea to pickup a long Micro USB cord so you can
keep using them when the batteries run out. A50s are incredibly comfortable and since they don't have a rigid frame like the AXPros and conform they are incredibly comfortable. Could easily wear them all day.

Right now sadly without the Dolby Digital 5.1 through optical not being available on the One and only being able to use my headsets for chat by adding a 2.5mm jack to the included headset module myself neither can be used to their full capabilities. This
benefits the A50 for the One right now since you can disable the Dolby Pro Logic and just use stereo while the AXPro just doesn't sound right without a Dolby 5.1 source. After they patch Dolby back in both headsets should sound just as good or better than
they have for my 360 and PS3.

  5. Thanks for the input mate I will look into both and read up on them. Could you tell me with the Tritton when you plugged your play and charge kit in while having the headset connected did it make a weird humming noise?

  6. If your Tv has an optical output you will get dolby 5.1 from it. Just connect the optical cable to the television not to the X1.I have my tangos connected this way and it works just fine.

Also the wireless card on the X1 is capable of bluetooth connectivity they judt need to inplement it so older wireless headsets will work. I know they want to push wifi direct , but MS should enable the bluetooth and update the drivers.

  7. I haven't looked into any of the next gen headsets, but I just replaced my TB DX12's with the Astro A50's. I wouldn't say the Astro's sound a night and day difference better than the Turtle Beaches, but as for feel and quality the Astro's are a night and
day difference compared to the Turtle Beaches. If you also like wireless the Astro A50's are awesome. I would say I get about 6 - 8 hour battery life out of them and have never had any sound problems with them at all, no hissing, no popping, no sound cut outs,
nothing. They have been perfect in this regard.

With the 360, I bought the controller keyboard that came with a headset. It's been working fine for me (though the quality sure is lacking). I'm using a foam padding I made myself since my other one sweated off?

    .

I've not really used the XB1 version yet. It feels the same, so I'm going to assume it'll perform the same.
