  1. Xbox One Games and Xbox Live - Setup Help

    I first ask you don't shoot the messenger Xbox One Games and Xbox Live - Setup Help :) I have tried researching this on so many different sites, but all the threads end up bashing the person who asked the question that I never found an answer. It may seem an obviously silly question(s) to most of
    you, but you all are probably 35+ years younger than I am Xbox One Games and Xbox Live - Setup Help :) So be gentle with this old woman.

    I have an older Xbox 360 we got at a garage sale. We had to buy a USB drive to play/save our games because it doesn't have a hard drive I guess. My husband and I have really enjoy playing Halo and I am hooked on Skyrim. He also just started Black Ops.

    That being said, we were looking at some of the games on Xbox One and were amazed at the graphics. So we bought one. It's sitting here on the counter unopened because the store clerk said we would need several things in order to play the games we mentioned
    we were interested in. He said we will need an Xbox Live account, and an external hard drive because the games are so big.

    The games we are interested in playing, we were told, are not stand alone games and you have to play with other people online. We tried that once and it was so stressful because we not hard core gamers, we end up not enjoying the experience.

    So my questions are -

    1 - Do we need Xbox live to play games like Destiny, Assassins Creed, Dragon Age, Titanfall?

    2 - Are these games all multiplayer games? Or can they be played with just us against the computer like Halo and Skyrim?

    3 - Do we need an external hard drive? You don't just pop the disc in and play?

    Thank you all for your help!

    :)

    Xbox One Games and Xbox Live - Setup Help

    1. You need Xbox Live to play Destiny and Titanfall. These are both online-only games, you can only play them in Multiplayer. This should be marked on the box and it will say "2-6/Xbox Live Gold" in the digital Store to indicate this. Assassin's Creed and
    Dragon Age both have single player components so you can play those offline (they both have a campaign/story mode), so no Xbox Live membership required.

    2. This question has mostly the same answer as Q1. They all have mutliplayer components, but Destiny and Titanfall are
    only multiplayer whilst Assassin's Creed and Dragon Age have single player modes you can play offline.

    3. You do not need an external hard drive. Pop the discs in and they will begin to install. After that you just play. There is a 500GB hard drive (of which approximately 350-370GB can be used to install games, the rest is reserved for the Operating System),
    currently the biggest game is Halo: Master Chief Collection at 65GB, then many are around 45GB and others are much smaller (including some at under 1GB). So you have plenty of space to install quite a few games before needing to uninstall some or get an external
    hard drive.

    ~~~
    My question to you: do you plan on having the console connected to the Internet or not?
    You can connect it to the Internet without needing an Xbox Live Gold membership and this will allow you to get all the free title updates for games that add new content or fix some bugs/glitches. However, if you do NOT plan on connecting the console to the
    Internet, note that the first time you start it up you WILL need to be connected to the Internet for a one-time set-up of the console. After that you can use it offline permanently if you wish.
    I hope that answers everything satisfactorily. Let us know if you have any further questions about this or anything else regarding the console.
  5. Maxen thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions!
    Assassins Creed I do not have discs for. They said there are codes in the box I need to input and the game will download.
    I do have internet at the house. I didn't know about updates till I started researching my questions so I plugged it in and holy cow it did a lot of updates including game updates to Skyrim. So yes it can be plugged into the internet.
    I'm so disappointed that Destiny is 2+ people. I tried the Halo campaign with others one time and because I am not used to shooting other gamers and such I ended up being 'dead' 99% of the game. They looked at me and I was "fish in a barrel".
    Lol I wish I had someone like you to hit the stores with and then come to the house and set it up! Thank you again Xbox One Games and Xbox Live - Setup Help :)
    So Assassin's Creed, there'll be some codes in the box. Once you've done the initial set-up and logged in to your account (the one you're using to post here maybe? or the one you used on your 360, if there's an email/password for it), you can redeem the
    code from the console. The game will then begin downloading. Depending on your Internet speeds it may take a while. It's a fairly large game so it may take many hours.
    It sounds like that was the 360 you plugged in? Yep, there's system updates and game updates to do there too. On the One, there are monthly system updates to add new features and game updates release quite frequently (especially near launch), so keeping
    it connected is the best way to always have the latest version of the game.
    Haha, maybe that should be the next evolution of the Ambassadors programme, we do call-outs to help set up equipment! Xbox One Games and Xbox Live - Setup Help :) For now though we'll have to make do with remote assistance.
    I also wanted to add that the external hard drive is an option only and not required. If you decide to get one you'll need to make sure to tell the store clerk that it needs to be USB 3.0 compatible and can range in size from 250GB (Gigabyte) to 16TB (Terrabyte).
    Most people make due with an exta 1 - 5 TB drive.
    Also, if you do decide to get a Gold membership to play online you can share the membership between all family members on the Xbox One console. Simply have the Gold membership holder head to Settings then scroll all the way to the right until you see Add
    to Family and add the gamertag there. Then one membership can be used for both people.
    Also, with a Gold membership you can take advantage of the Games With Gold program. It offers free games every month to Gold Membership holders that you can download and play so long as you have a Gold membership on the Xbox One.
    If you had the membership for the 360 the free games would be permanent.
    If you are interested in purchasing the membership there is a sale on today for Cyber Monday offering a discounted price off of a one year membership.
    I hope this info helped and don't worry about the technology. I'm pushing 50 myself so it's easy to learn and use. lol
    I did also want to throw out there that Destiny isn't strictly "player versus player" like you would naturally think when hearing the word "multiplayer." Much like any other game, you would specifically choose the "Crucible" to fight against other players,
    BUT, the story part of the game is a cooperative multiplayer, where you can play solo or with other people to accomplish the same goals (not fighting against each other, but rather, computer-controlled enemies.)
    That said, you DO still have to have a Gold account to be able to play Destiny at all, but just wanted to make sure you knew that you DON'T have to fight against other players! Titanfall, on the other hand.... :-D
  9. You guys are just TERRIFIC!!
    I then have one, and hopefully last, question.
    My Costco here has a 1 year Gold Membership for $40. Can I buy 2 of these and use one this year and one next year? Or do they expire?
    I am so excited to start playing some of these games. I should refrain though because I am sure once I start I won't play Skyrim anymore because the graphics won't be near as good.
    Glad we could be of help to you! Always remember, if you have ANY questions, game-related, or even system technical issues, you can just give us a shout on here and we'll do what we can and hopefully help you solve any issues so you don't have to call phone
    support!
    You should be 100% fine to go ahead and buy two, and in fact, you don't actually have to "wait" until next year to redeem the second year's worth (I actually think the code itself DOES have an expiration, so you wouldn't want to buy now and wait 12 months
    to redeem it, I don't think.) But that's okay, let me explain: what it does is, when you redeem a code for Xbox Live service, it basically adds that number of month's onto the END of your current subscription. So, say you redeem a 12 month code now; it'll
    take you through December 2015, and if you redeem a second code right away, it won't "replace" your current membership, it will actually extend your account through December 2016!
    I love how this works, and I can vouch that it definitely works that way - I used to wait until the last month of my subscription, until one year I accidentally redeemed one like 3 months early. Well, much to my delight, instead of cutting the last three
    months off my current subscription, it actually just added the 12 months to the end of my current subscription. Xbox One Games and Xbox Live - Setup Help :)
