  1. Xbox One game updates

Updates are an area that Xbox needs to put some serious work into. Playstation has got them down pretty well. Although it's cool that you can have your games update while your Xbox is in standby mode, It is so terrible that I HAVE to wait for an update to
finish in order to play the game. On PS4, the game can update while you're still playing it, as long as you play offline. This is such a great feature for those of us who don't have good internet. It would be a big deal to have this option on Xbox. If that
isn't an option, then at least include a "cancel update" button. Seriously, how hard is that? You can cancel a system update, so why not a game update? I am so tired of getting off work, sitting down to play a game only to discover that there's a 2 gigabyte
update that's going to take 4 hours to complete. Please, include some sort of cancellation or update while you play feature in the next update.

    :)

I've never read that the Xbox One is supposed to perform game updates in standby ?

As far as I'm aware the auto update feature is for console updates.

    Xbox One game updates

Ive had my X1 in standby/Auto download for nearly 3 years and have never seen a game update screen ?

Im all digital so maybe this only happens with Disc based games and updates?

  5. ^Nope, I can confirm that my disc based games update automatically with instant-on enabled.

OP you're best to put this idea at the feedback website here:

So how is this guy getting interrupted by game updates all the time?

  7. I can only imagine he doesn't have instant-on enabled or he's playing offline and when connecting to the net he's prompted to update.

In any case, here's the support link for instant-on if OP wants to check it out:

I don't have my xbox on instant download, it doesn't bother me getting interrupted by game updates, at the end of the day, they take 5 minutes on my connection.

If game updates are taking 4 hours, you really ought to look into upgrading your internet connection, if it is possible in your area, if not, keep your xbox on 'instant on', so you don't have to worry about game updates at all. Most of the time they will
update whilst your at work/or at night.

For me, it's not an issue with the update processes. I have my xbox in energy saver mode because I always have issues with games when in instant on mode. Mostly the issues seem to revolve around connection timeouts. I'll launch a game and get errors that
I'm not signed in anymore (When I actually am) as an example. There were other issues too, but it was too long ago for me to recall.

Maybe they've fixed the issues now, as I haven't tried it in a while.

My point being that I felt forced to use energy saver mode to alleviate problems I was having, and because of that it seemed like every time I launched a game, it would need an update.

I think a good solution would be to have games auto-update when you power on the xbox. I believe this is what PS does. Or, at least, have an "Update all" button in the games and apps section so you can one-click it once in a while. Right now, if ever I have
someone coming over to my place and we might play some games, I will spend an hour or two before they come clicking on games one-by-one so they will update and we can have an update-free game session.

  11. Only time I get pestered with a update is when I put in a new game that I bought from a store for the 1st time, the updates after that install automatically since I have my x1 set to instant on, which I would recommend with your connection since those updates
will install quicker while your x1 is turned off.

I know your pain OP. I don't use insta on (can't as I switch between consoles and only got 3 sockets to use in my console corner: 1 for laptop, one for TV and one for a console...) and it's so annoying when you want to play something just to find that there's
an update. Then you try another game, update. And another game with an update. This is one of those features that Sony got right and MS is behind. Skridger is right, PS4 does automatically add updates to your DL list. If we can't have the feature that let's
us play games while downloading the patch for them, then at least have them auto update when you do connect to Live.

    Xbox One game updates

The thing with insta on I like is the instant play of games, I tend to stick with one game at a time so not having to reboot and load a game every day is wonderful. Two simple voice commands when I walk in the room and I play straight away.

I turn my console/TV off at the wall when I'm not at home or asleep. That's something I've been taught to do. The console cannot be on Instant Mode when it's not being powered. It's not like consoles and desktop PC's have batteries unlike laptops, when you
turn off the AC power. Microsoft however are notorious for releasing many and regular updates for their products. But they're not the only company. EA with their Origin or something software needed for The Sims 4 on PC, always seems to want update and always
checks for updates. Internet security software does the same thing too. Checks for updates everyday. 21st century Technology just isn't reliable enough, that's why it needs to be updated. To fix bugs, ongoing security improvements, add new stuff, etc.

I remember a 2GB update for TDU2 on Xbox 360, and it took TWO AND A HALF HOURS to download. No it isn't my ISP. Usually with Xbox 1, updates are downloaded usually in proportion to the speeds your ISP can give you. But sometimes they can be longer. Sometimes
Xbox 1 downloads a system update which is 373MB big. When it comes to the last 90MB, the download speed slows down to like 1MB every 35 seconds or so. You could ring up your ISP ask them to check your connection "nope, your internet is fine". Could be latency
or Microsoft's servers. Sometimes I don't turn off my console at the wall when I got to sleep (usually I do) but I always turn it off at the wall when I leave in the mornings.

Move external hard drive from one Xbox One (s) console to another (x)?

    Hi,

What game or games does this message pop for? Many Xbox One games have updates specifically for the Xbox X. If your Xbox One game has a 4K assets update for example, you'll be prompted to download this when using the drive on the Xbox One X console.

The Xbox One S and original Xbox One don't support X-enhancements, so you won't be prompted for that update when using the drive on the One S.

    Please look at the
    following link
, it explains how to update games for Xbox One X enhancements, while still using a Xbox One S or original Xbox One.
