    Xbox one fried my external HDD


    I am now on my third Xbox One, the first one was plagued with the famous controller disconnect issue. The second one had a total melt down & crashed in a spectacular fashion, nearly popped my speakers with loud clicking sounds, leaving the xbox useless.

    After unplugging my old Xbox one & setting up my new Xbox one, I have now noticed that my external HDD is no longer recognized by the xbox, So I plugged it into my PC to see if I could reformat it, but not even my PC will see it anymore. It would appear
    that when my Xbox crashed, it took out my External HDD as well.

    Contacted Xbox support & David D was utterly useless, spent the whole time dodging questions & basically told me.....tough luck mate. To say I was angry with this response would be a MAJOR understatement, especially when you consider that this is my 3rd......yes

    I used to be a huge Microsoft fan, but this whole Xbox One thing has left me utterly disgusted with Microsoft's attitude to customers now. They just don't give a S**t anymore.

    Well, I've already made the move to Apple ever since Microsoft released the awful Windows 10.......I guess I'll just stick the xbox up for sale now & move on !!

    Data off drive in fried Xbox One

    The motherboard in my nephew's Xbox One fried (said the repair man) so is it possible to get the data off the internal drive and put it on an external to be used with his new Xbox One? (Or possibly use the internal drive as an external?)

    after preview dashboard update

    I just got into the beta for the new dashboard on my xbox one... I have found that I cannot find a wifi signal or connect to xbox live IF my xbox one boots up with my external HDD plugged in...if I boot my xbox one up with my external HDD unplugged it finds
    my wifi and I can connect to xbox live...

    I can still use my external HDD afterwards..but everytime I restart my external HDD must be unplugged.... is this a software issue? please be so..I really dont want to have to send my xbox one in for repair..

    External HDD

    Yes External HDD support is available. The External HDD must be at least 256GB in size and use USB 3.0. Keep in mind that the External HDD will have to be formatted for use with the Xbox One console.

    I am really glad that you won't have to re-install games if your Xbox One goes bad :)

    I am going to have to transfer all of my installed game stuff to my External HDD when I eventually get it :)

    Can I transfer the stuff from the Xbox One HDD to the External HDD without having to delete the game and re-install it to the External HDD?

    Why do games take hours to install on my Xbox One?

    The read time/speed of the HDD is obviously terrible. If you had an external HDD with USB 3.0 and a better read speed, games would load and install much faster than on the internal HDD of the Xbox One. I can't wait for my external HDD to come in. I am going
    to move all the larger games to that.

    Thank You So much. I am going to buy a 1TB External HDD and use it as my Primary Storage for Games and the Xbox One HDD will be for the System so that the Xbox One HDD don't slow down.
