System Update caused my Hard Drive to be unformatted

Hi, it's more likely what has happened is that the hard drive has failed or become badly corrupted hence why you're getting the system update request because the system can't find the software on the hard drive.

All you can do is try to format the hard drive, if it formats that's great, if it won't format or formats then shows as unformatted again after a restart of the xbox you're looking at needing to buy a new hard drive.

As you already have usb devices configured as xbox storage you can remove the hard drive and the xbox should update and use one of your usb device rather than the hard drive for the system software. You will then at least be able to use the xbox until you
    get a new hard drive.

Xbox One format won't update on hard drive

    Hello Kevin,

Thanks for reaching out to the forums. We understand your console is being repaired but unable to format. The only thing we can provide is the

    offline update
. This should apply all necessary files. If you have the console, then you can perform the offline update.

    Thanks,

    Brad

have you re-formatted the hard drive since the update?

The update won't re-allocate the space, it will however allow you to create a larger space to be used by the xbox.

    Seagate 2TB Game Drive Issue

With the xbox one, the HDD needs to be formatted in its entirety with the Xbox One formatting and partition system, which is slightly different than Windows. The console OS won't "recognize" the hard drive as a game drive until you format it for the games
    on the console.

If you intend on doing both, you need to partition the hard drive in windows, then take it to the console and format it for the games on one partition and media the other.

When you partition a hard drive, everything on it is lost, and you will need to redownload the games to it on the partition you want it to.
