Q: I was told only ONE person is to set the console as HOME. My son's account has it set as HOME (because he is GOLD and I am SILVER). Should I set the box to HOME - will that (A) be allowed - both on the *SAME* box be able to set as HOME and (B) will
that allow my son to login without me and play the game?

    thank you

You should just be able to set the console as your home console. As many accounts as you want can have the same console set as their home console. You setting the console as your home console should not affect your son having the
console set as his home console.

Simply follow the steps outlined here to set the console as your home console:

  3. First a post I made is under review from the forum admin for over 12 hrs so probably sleep at the switch there.

As for the last post - I took your advice and changed my setting to be MAKE THIS MY HOME XBOX. So both my son and I have have this set. I was able to change the INSTANT on to be HIM, not me; power cycled and it appears that he was able to start the game
    without me logged in. Positive.

Based on this post the two posts (not mine) inferred that there can only be one person set as HOME. A post in this thread likewise said what was done and no one corrected that.

Jury is still out if both myself and son can play multiplayer with this setup. So far I was able to play Halo 5 multiplayer - he has to test that.

I have 3 gamer-tags as my home xbox and its not an issue and can share/play games from all. JUST SET ALL AS HOME XBOX.Worst case just delete the profiles an re-download them an try from there as everything is stored online so you lose nothing.

  5. This may not be applicable to you since it is your son you are sharing with, but remember that when using home features that the people on you home console potentially have access to personal information of yours such as credit card info, account info, and
other identifiable personal information. This is why you should only use home features in a single household or with close family which you can trust completely. Any security breaches due to the home share feature are your responsibility, if someone else decides
to log in your account and make purchases or violations of the TOS you will still be held responsible. Just wanted to make sure you were aware.

  6. Update: All is good. As per my last post - I was misinformed on the "MY HOME XBOX" and by setting both accounts as that, we can both play the multi-player, and my son can play Halo 5 without me logging in.

Just tested the Backward Compatibility and ... it successfully downloads the games, DLCs, season passes and further, I am able to play multi-player.

    Thanks

I have the exact same setup with my brother, this is a pretty straightforward setup and there are even YouTube videos walking you through step by step. This is exactly how ps4 works minus the whole "home" setup. You can play games you bought on "your" console
along with anyone using that console. You can also play your games while logged in at a friend's house but only while your logged in. Essentially the console you play on in this scenario is your "friends" while your son plays on yours, no difference.

Also just so you know, if you use this system and game you purchase on your console (the one not set as home) will be automatically downloaded to whatever console you have set as "home". You will need to go in and manually select to download the game to
the secondary console since you are essentially a guest and the purchase, no matter where it was made from, will be processed at your "home" console.

Well maybe I and two MSFT "trained" support staff don't know something. I spoke with both, restarting the conversion, and explained the situation and both stated I would have to be logged in for my son to play (same console). Neither went anywhere near
the "HOME CONSOLE" setting in the conversation. Both stated - "YES" the owner of the game has to be logged in for others to play. FACT.

    • Unless I am logged into the console, my son cannot play the game. FACT.
    • We have ONE console and NOBODY is roaming to anyone's house (all of it was hypothetical based on what MSFT has done with licensing). I am not out to scam anyone or break a license - just repeating what I am hearing as a farce.
    • My son has it set as "MY HOME XBOX". And I do not. I was advised (think it was you actually ngocphi) that only ONE person can have this set as MY HOME XBOX at any time and the others cannot. I discovered I as well had this set - in fact both of us did.
(I again have SILVER, and my son has GOLD).
Are you suggesting that if I change MY setting to "MY HOME XBOX" then I do not need to login for my son to play the game? I believe I tried that and something went wrong with the multiplayer. Because as "silver" it was causing a problem.

At any rate, somehow I get the feeling that the only people reading and responding to this post have their OWN console and share content with NO ONE and are answering based on "logic" not "experience". If that is true, then you know absolutely nothing about
    this.

BOTTOM LINE - ONE MORE TIME:

    • I have silver. My son has gold
    • I bought the game
    • Unless I am logged in, he cannot play.
    • I only care about our single console - no one is roaming to people's houses and blowing their internet bandwidth for the entire month with a single 60GB download. Read 0% sharing elsewhere.
Please work the problem - tell me what I have to do to allow him to play without me logging in. I only care for responses from people that KNOW and have SOLVED the problem. And if the answer is, that is how it
is, then it goes back to the theme of my posts - re-read them 10x and you will see that MSFT is scamming people.
Period. If none of you are believers, move along - this post is not the one you are looking for.

    Thanks!
