  1. XBOX ONE forcing purchaser of digital game to be logged in so others can use it? (!!!!!!!!)

I purchased an XB1 last week (Guardians edition) and installed the game under my account. I am silver and me son is Gold (which is no factor).

    What I have discovered is,
    per this article
, unless I am logged into my account, no one else on the console can play Halo 5. What is the rationale to create such a model? I called support and they stated "because the game is linked
to my name I can go to other people's houses and install the game." They could do nothing to help (like change the license to my son). So because of such a feature, for those like myself who NEVER go to other people's houses, I am *** in having a convoluted
    sign in process.

I can see this feature being some benefit to some people - but I am guessing what - 20% of the XBOX ONE owners
if that? If I go to a friend's house they already have Halo 5- so I just log into their console - and share their Gold membership. The game never transferred. Meanwhile now back at home my son cannot play the game since I am not
logged in (and cannot since only one XBOX ONE can be signed in at a time). Notice how my
purchased game cannot be played - the license never changed hands - my copy never got installed elsewhere. That is a fraud!

Not like this on PS4 - anyone can buy the game and anyone can play the game. So I will say this - when there are choices in buying games, PS4 will always get my money going forward unless this problem is fixed. And I think it never will be. Thanks to
the 20% of the users on the planet.

PROPOSED SOLUTION FOR MICROSOFT: Like MY HOME XBOX which can be changed up to 3x per year - have this as a switch. "Allow XBOX Games to be shared on other machines?" YES - it does what happens now. NO - you
cannot share, but also anyone on the console can play without the "owner of the game" logged in. And as NO I should be able to log into any other console and "play" with my gamertag - as that does not transfer the game. (like the good ... old ... xbox
    360
    ).

As for MY solution - thanks Microsoft - no more security or privacy for my console. It is set to auto-login with MY account and then my son has to waste time in logging in too (instead of the faster his account auto-signs in). And yes in theory I *** up
not knowing this convoluted rule. But going forward any games not available on the PS4, if bought digitally will be done so under my name on the XB1.

    Thank you!

    :)

    call of duty ghosts upgrade?

it will work, if you bought the digital copy from the MS market place it will work not sure about any others:

    www.callofduty.com/.../nextgen

    Q.
How does the Xbox next-generation upgrade program work?

    A.
Microsoft offers the Xbox 360 + Xbox One Digital Combo, a disc-less dual-license that provides the Xbox 360 digital version of Call of Duty: Ghosts, as well as the Xbox One digital version of Call of Duty: Ghosts – linked and unlocked via a user’s Xbox Live
gamertag. The Xbox 360 + Xbox One Digital Combo will be available at participating retailers for a suggested retail price of $69.99.

Alternatively, via the Xbox Live Market place, players can also purchase an Xbox 360 digital version of Call of Duty: Ghosts for a suggested retail price of $59.99. And when ready to upgrade to Xbox One, players can purchase a digital Xbox One version of Call
of Duty: Ghosts for a suggested retail price of just $10 until May 31, 2014. This also applies to Call of Duty: Ghosts Digital Hardened Edition purchases.

    Q.
When I upgrade from digital download for Xbox 360 to digital download for Xbox One, will my digital Xbox 360 game license be deactivated?

A.No, Xbox 360 game license will not be deactivated. Both game licenses will be retained.

Ok first like support told you and what sony will tell you

You cannotntransfer games between profiles thats againat the law not even on sony ps4

You can however do something different

Tey will not allow you to change your home console beyond 3 x a year it is only for you amd your family only

Not to share with the whole neighborhood

    You actually got it wrong

Xbox was going to allow sharing a game by loaning the dlc for 24hours but due to the sony marketing 300k bloggers protested against digital game sharing

    Now you are restricted

Nope anyone on your home console can use your games

If you are going to a friend you should not be sharing your games with home console sertting

As long as you login on live at your friends console you can use the dlc and games as long as you are on live

You do not need to change the home console for temporary visits

  5. YOU payed for the game. YOU have the license. By siginging in to the console that ANOTHER PERSON is also signed into, are YOU giving that OTHER PERSON(S) a temporary license to play the game that YOU own.

Whit other words. They want to let everyone have fun, but they also want to earn money, so they put restrictions on it in a way.

  6. Shaking my head. "WHIT OTHER WORDS" ?? "Nope anyone on your home console can use your games" ?? NOT TRUE!

Microsoft should have linked the GAME LICENSE to a PERSON AND CONSOLE and controlled the STATUS of that license BETTER. Instead they took some other path and have crippled the entire system.

    1. PROBLEM 1: While the game is located ON MY CONSOLE, anyone should be able to login and play without me logging in. Microsoft does NOT allow this, PS4 does. THAT IS AN INDISPUTABLE FACT!

    2. PROBLEM 2: When I visit a friend who has the same digital game and I login with my gamertag, my home console should be able to be used without me - my copy of the game I bought should be usable "by anyone". Microsoft
does NOT allow this since *I* own the game and since I am not logged into the console, other users
cannot play the digital games I purchased. I have never tested the PS4 theory of this - but again a "userid" against a legit copy elsewhere
should not be a problem. Again this is fraud!

How could MSFT maintain the licensing and get around the OWNER logged in piece? Simple - a LICENSE SERVER. Every single time you start the game - multiplayer or campaign, it pings the server and ensures that only one legit copy is being used. And if that
is a bother to people who don't have full internet - simple - MSFT adds a switch that says (A) You want to share, you must have a working internet account always. (B) You don't want to share - internet is not required. Then the license server deals with
everything. Gosh we are not reinventing the wheel. CABLE companies have been doing this for YEARS with their digital boxes. The boxes are linked to YOUR account and you must PAY for the service. If you move the box to another house, it won't work. You
have to call in - and then they see the box is not at your address. Before that I was splicing the COAX to TVs all over the house. But no more - thanks to digital licenses.

MSFT took an "cheap" path with the gamertag login and I just think that is ridiculous. Again for the 20% of the population that will want to share the 60GB games - AFAIK, but for that piece this would not even be a problem.. Live and learn.

As I said, I will be buying PS4 games over XBOX, when they are not exclusive. And yes that stance hurts MSFT even if I already spent money on the XBOX ONE. XBOX ONE sales are in the tubes - maybe Halo 5 will be their saving grace - doubt it. As more people
buy PS4s -- software companies shift to doing more with PS4 (earlier releases/exclusive etc). Me? Well I started using the Game Streaming in my home and think it is AMAZING - something I am sure Sony will swipe at some point. But I still have this
bad licensing scam taste in my mouth. Won't go away unless MSFT rethinks the entire process. Doubt it but you never know.

  7. Honestly I don't know what you're trying to say. If you own the license and the game is on your home console anyone with an account on that Xbox can play. If you have a second console you can also log in on that console and play, you can't be logged in on
both consoles but your home console still has access for anyone playing and whatever Xbox your account is on can play.

The 3 home switches is plenty for using the services as intended, you shouldn't be swapping home console any time you want a friend to play your game. Its made for houses with multiple consoles and families who are willing to share sensitive info so they
could remove the family gold package.

It's pretty straight forward and PS4 doesn't let you share content a cross consoles. I have had a ps4 since launch and games I download on my console are playable by that console THEY JUST don't have the "home" system setup.

You should be able to set the console as your home console, then anyone on it can play your digital content.

My Home Xbox Setting on Xbox One | Share Your Xbox One

If you have already changed your home console 3 times this year, you can call support and kindly ask them to let you change it again.I've heard others have had success with calling support for that.

However you should not be abusing it

Home console is only meant to be used by you and your family

At best case 2x a year baring repairs which case support does it fot you

When you goto a friends you should only be using your profile to access the games no need for the home console

Unless you are sharinf your games which is a violation of the terms ofuse

Also stop turning this into a console war

First and foremost it is a violation of the forums terms and conditions and will only result in a lock

As you dont seem to have read what we posted

    Here ia a refresher

On home consoles your son can play anybgame you purchased

On your other console you can use your content as long as you are logined into live at all times the system is actually the same on ps4

One master home console and one roaming console you shouldnot be changing your home console when roaming

Thetr is mo need to changw the home console unless you are doing something illegal or a trrms of use violation resulting in an console ban like sharing your account or games with friends

  11. Well maybe I and two MSFT "trained" support staff don't know something. I spoke with both, restarting the conversion, and explained the situation and both stated I would have to be logged in for my son to play (same console). Neither went anywhere near
the "HOME CONSOLE" setting in the conversation. Both stated - "YES" the owner of the game has to be logged in for others to play. FACT.

    • Unless I am logged into the console, my son cannot play the game. FACT.
    • We have ONE console and NOBODY is roaming to anyone's house (all of it was hypothetical based on what MSFT has done with licensing). I am not out to scam anyone or break a license - just repeating what I am hearing as a farce.
    • My son has it set as "MY HOME XBOX". And I do not. I was advised (think it was you actually ngocphi) that only ONE person can have this set as MY HOME XBOX at any time and the others cannot. I discovered I as well had this set - in fact both of us did.
(I again have SILVER, and my son has GOLD).
Are you suggesting that if I change MY setting to "MY HOME XBOX" then I do not need to login for my son to play the game? I believe I tried that and something went wrong with the multiplayer. Because as "silver" it was causing a problem.

At any rate, somehow I get the feeling that the only people reading and responding to this post have their OWN console and share content with NO ONE and are answering based on "logic" not "experience". If that is true, then you know absolutely nothing about
    this.

BOTTOM LINE - ONE MORE TIME:

    • I have silver. My son has gold
    • I bought the game
    • Unless I am logged in, he cannot play.
    • I only care about our single console - no one is roaming to people's houses and blowing their internet bandwidth for the entire month with a single 60GB download. Read 0% sharing elsewhere.
Please work the problem - tell me what I have to do to allow him to play without me logging in. I only care for responses from people that KNOW and have SOLVED the problem. And if the answer is, that is how it
is, then it goes back to the theme of my posts - re-read them 10x and you will see that MSFT is scamming people.
Period. If none of you are believers, move along - this post is not the one you are looking for.

    Thanks!

  12. And for those that say "yes that is how it works - the owner must login and why is that not right?"

    Let me explain again.

    • I go to my friend Steve's house to play on his console along with his other friend, Bill.
    • Steve bought Halo 5. He has a legit license. So do I on my console. So does Bill on his console. All of us shoved money to MSFT.
    • We all play happily on Steve's console. Bill and I want to use our profile, and download it to Steve's machine and we all login and play!!!
    • Neither Bill or myself downloaded any game. Just our profile/gamertags.
    • We are having a great time! But not everyone.
    • Poor Bill's kids cannot play Halo 5 - because Bill is logged into Steve's console. Bill paid money for a license that cannot be used. That is FRAUD!
    • My kids too cannot play Halo 5, because I logged into Steve's console with my gamertag. I too paid money for a license that cannot be used. That too is FRAUD!
SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THIS IS A GOOD/FAIR/PROPER THING?

(AGAIN - if my son can play without me logging in - and some forum guru knows this
COLD - I am all ears!!)

Thanks to those that can help. I appreciate it.

    Regards.

  13. XBOX ONE forcing purchaser of digital game to be logged in so others can use it? (!!!!!!!!)

If you have a console set up as "home" you are in effect logged in at that console. No one that works for Microsoft is going to tell you how to game the set up, stop being so passive aggressive and listen to what we are telling you and you will solve your
    issue.

    1. Set the console your son plays on as "home"

    2. Log in to second console with your name but don't set it as home, you will essentially be a guest and have access to your purchases items.

    3. Have your son set his console as home as well, they will be the home console for both of you.

    4. Have your son log in his console and you log in your console

    5. Viola, you now are both playing halo

  14. I have the exact same setup with my brother, this is a pretty straightforward setup and there are even YouTube videos walking you through step by step. This is exactly how ps4 works minus the whole "home" setup. You can play games you bought on "your" console
along with anyone using that console. You can also play your games while logged in at a friend's house but only while your logged in. Essentially the console you play on in this scenario is your "friends" while your son plays on yours, no difference.

Also just so you know, if you use this system and game you purchase on your console (the one not set as home) will be automatically downloaded to whatever console you have set as "home". You will need to go in and manually select to download the game to
the secondary console since you are essentially a guest and the purchase, no matter where it was made from, will be processed at your "home" console.

  15. There is *NO* second console. I am basing this discussion around the fact that I gave from the first post and what I am being told.

I bought the game under my account. I have silver. My son has gold.

Please explain what has to be done in order for my son to play the game without me logging in. My account is *ON* this an only this console. My son's account is *ON* this and only this console. If I do not log in, the game cannot be played by my son.
What I want is the ability to have HIM "auto sign-in" and play the game.

    - Unless I sign in he cannot play the game.

    - MSFT voice support said the same thing (two different calls).
