    Xbox one file system

I bought a 2TB external drive for my Xbox one, and when researching it, I discovered that Xbox is still using the FAT32 file system. WHY? Microsoft abandoned that system years ago, when file sizes got too big, and for other reasons. Yet they are still
using it on XBOX One, in spite of the fact that drives of well over 2 TB are almost required due to the huge game sizes. It doesn't help when Microsoft made it mandatory that all games be loaded on the drive. FAT32's main problem was that it couldn't use
a drive over 2 TB, yet drives over 4 TB are getting common. How is FAT32 handling that? Also FAT32 didn't work with files over 4GB, yet I'm putting 40 GB games on my drive, how is that happening? When are they going to change to a better file system, or
    are they?

    :)

Can you use one hard rive for all your systems..Xbox one, ps4 and wii u

No because each system has a different file system and will need to format the drive once it is plugged in.

Xbox One and Wii U support external drives. PS4 does not.

    Hi

I don't know what file format Xbox One uses with external hard drives but when you first connect a drive the console should offer to format the drive for games (If it meets the specs), With my Xbox One I have both a 2TB and 4TB external hard drives connected
and working without any issues for playing games.

  5. I have the same set up as gds1972 and it handles the data with no issues. It is maybe that using FAT34 allows file transfer of game clips to non Microsoft OS possible.

  6. I'll also add that FAT32 can handle file size up to 32GB with cluster size being 16KB and whilst a game download is often over 40GB the file sizes will be split down.

The Xbox One does not use FAT32, the Xbox 360 uses FAT32 and the Xbox One uses NTFS.

If you're having an issue with the Xbox One not seeing the external hdd then make sure you're external hdd is formatted as NTFS and that it meets these requirements.

    • It uses a USB 3.0 connection. If you’re using a USB hub, the hub must also be USB 3.0 or later.
    • It has 256 GB or larger storage capacity.

to my knowledge the xbox with read any formatted drive, will write captures to any drive formatted as ntfs, but the games storage partition uses something like exfat
